Thanks for elaborating, the prostitute thing makes a lot more sense, she is probably way older but even then it should be weird for Marty.

The prostitute is 7 years older now. So if she was 16-17 in 1995 when he told her to go find something else to do, that puts here at 23-24 now. At worst, she's 21. He had sex with her in 2002, not 1994. Remember, he was in T-Mobile and bought a more modern flip phone.

That doesn't take the creepiness out of it that he knows she is an ex hooker who worked at a back woods w**** house, but he is far from underage.

Hunch - whoever the guy with the scars is, he's above Tuttle. Tuttle is just the money, scars is the brains. Maybe scarface kills Tuttle. I cant see Cohle doing it.

I think we find out that Marty's daughter was raped this next episode (after watching the preview).

Yes. It was conceivable that the whole fall out and the reasons behind it was a show. But we saw in this episode that Rust really did have sex with Maggie and that they never told anybody about it, which they would have if it were staged.

However, the second part of the theory that Rust and Marty end up working the case from inside and outside the state police still seems possible, if not likely.

In 2002, Rust and Marty have their genuine falling out and Rust quits. Rust continues investigating the case. Sometime later (2010-12) Rust flags Marty down on the road and shows him what he's found and Marty ends up agreeing to help him.

Not to me. Marty seems done with it all. He's never come off as a good detective that actually cares much about the work.

Ahh, I was thinking their exchange on the road was AFTER they left their interviews. Maybe it was before? But it looked like the clothes they were wearing was the same as in the interviews.

I actually thought they were interviewed several days apart. Cohle having gone first. Wouldn't surprise me if Cohle wore the same thing every day.

For some reason it looked to me like Marty had slightly more hair in the scene where Rust stopped him on the side of the road to go talk than what I saw in the interviews. So I assume that was pre-interview timeline. Could be wrong, though.

I think it was post interview, Rust probably was near by the station and saw Marty leave and caught up with him.

I got the impression that Rust stopped him after Marty was leaving his interview.

I honestly don't know what to think at this point.

All I know is, they've spent a lot of time showing that Rust has a great ability to get a confession from people. Rust HAS to use that during this investigation, right? Otherwise, what exactly would be the point of showing all of that?

My only guess now is, Marty and Rust are "grabbing a beer" now and I think Rust works his way to a confession from Marty.

That's the only thing I got now.

Marty isn't involved, see the Episode 7 preview above.

Rust stops Marty after Marty walks out on his interview. I believe that Rust was staking out the offices to see who they were bringing in to question. Once he saw Marty, he chased him down - because all hell breaks loose next week when...

My speculation, Rust has a video of Marty's daughter being raped and shows it to Marty.

Marty gets on board to go "all in" as Rust has for the past decade.
