Yeah I'm still not sure if I believe that one. I know it was hand timed as was Deion's but it's just hard to believe. I'm surprised Manziel wasn't faster. Looks like he bulked up a bit which probably slowed him down.
To move that fast that big, I wish they had electronic timers for Bo I was thinking he would run a 4.5 worst a 4.55
Do you know about Jerry Rice's 40 time...? 4.7... But yet he out ran everyone on Sundays. The 40 time just validates straight line speed and players rarely get to run in a straight line so it's one of the most meaningless events at the combine but gets the most attention. Andre Ellington ran a 4.6 40 at the combine last year but he looks like one of the fastest running backs in the NFL when he's on the field.
10 yard split is a good number to look at to break it down a bit more. I haven't checked to see if they've posted them, but the 10 yard split shows the time for the first 10 yards of that 40 yard dash. I know it's a big number that teams use in evaluating rush linebackers. It's good for measuring that short little burst of acceleration when you take off. Edit: Manziel and Derek Carr both ran 1.59 10 yd split which was tied for best. Cam ran 1.58 and Luck ran 1.62.
Exactly. People put way too much stock into how well or bad somebody does at the 40. In game situations, How often are guys running a straight line, at that distance? its cool to watch but i dont think it should make or break a player
Yeah is overrated if you ask me about these 40s Good added info on the players but shouldnt be hyped the way it is During a real game, there's contact and routes if the guy gets open he's goin' to break loose. What's the big different a guy can run straight wit no contact not looking for a football by .2-.4 second?
56.0% cmp..... 3299yds, 21tds/11int...1299yds rushing, 17tds = Vick 68.9% cmp..... 7820yds, 63tds/22int...2169yds rushing, 30tds = Manziel
Vick played in a pretty antiquated era of offense - imagine him in a modern spread/read option attack.
These stats mean absolutely nothing Imagine if Vick had Mike Evans and co. and that ridiculously good A&M O-line
A beast is an under statement, he would have several Heisman/National Championship trophies in his locker
I actually still think Johnny would have been a better college QB than him. Definitely a better passer and I think more ellusive, just not as fast.
No Mike Evans and no all-american o-line He is a better college qb than Manziel, barely, thats taking into account the lack of a supporting cast
Yes Evans is great, but our second leading WR was Labhart this year. He was practicing with the womens BB team last year. I think his accuracy and completion % make JFF a better colleg QB than Vick would have been in todays systems. But that is a matter of opinion so I'll just agree to disagree.
