thanks guys... i tried wilderness family.. it was going cool until the family was attacked by a bear. oops. i guess we'e not camping in Alaska .
Camping usually means sleeping in a tent or in the open. Sleeping in lodging is not camping. Granted, Meatballs has a scene where they canoe out to the woods and go camping. Some of the best camping I've seen is in the movie "Prophecy" (1979) where the bears and wildlife are changed by high mercury levels in the water they drink and swim in polluted by a corrupt logging operation. Then, the campers are attacked in their sleeping bags by this mercury-bear-beast (similar to man-bear-pig but not quite). There are two distinct scenes...one where a camping family are thrown about in their sleeping bags and ripped to shreds by this thing...and the other where they are at an Indian camp site with tee pees where this thing attacks and rips apart anything in site. If that's not enough to get your family interested, then the crazed bear thing follows them across the lake as they flee. It really should put your family in the mood for camping in the great outdoors.
honestly, I cannot think of any good camping movies that aren't horror movies like the Blair Witch Project. There are camping scenes in various movies like The Parent Trap (the 1960's version) and the Three Amigos, but nothing that would make you want to go camping. Camping is indeed something that is really great for families - its inexpensive, fun, and a wonderful bonding experience. If you have daughters, join an Indian Princess troop - that way when you go camping, they'll be camping not only with you but with their friends. I have 2 girls (6 & 8) and they absolutely love going on the campouts - even when the weather is cold or raining..they love the experience and the fun with friends. We're actually going this weekend - keep in mind that most state parks have electric hookups at their campsites, so you'll be able to run an extension cord and hook up an electric blanket or heater in cold weather. We went once and it got down to 29 that night and we were fine because of the heater and electric blankets in our tent. If all else fails - make them go. They'll have fun. Good Luck!
