I should have rephrased that. Teddy's 40 time may not matter because he's hardly been seen running. So it wouldn't matter if he ran a 4.5 40 because he has no tape to point to. Plus, Teddy probably shouldn't run because he was already getting banged up in the pocket so his injury risk would be greater asking him to do something he normally doesn't do.
Yup, they are telling him not to compete at all hoping that he'll hurt his draft stock so badly that he drops to the second round.
You know Remii I have no agenda on here. I wish Bortles was faster and had better footwork and a quicker release but he doesn't. If he was better than Bridgewater I would admit it. I like his size but he is still very raw and he does have some major deficiencies in his mechanics from what I can see. Bridgewater is quicker in game than Bortles. And while not as often his running game is impressive as well. That's what I see. I do see Bortles as a stronger runner and his size allows him to pound his way for a few extra yards at times. But is low n my totem pole for skills I want in a QB. Bridgewater scrambles and passes on the run better. I would show you film of that but I already have and you continue voicing the same opinion as if you never watched. I do acknowledge some QB's have great footwork but are not as accurate. And Bortles is an accurate thrower. The problem I have with Bortles is when he had pressure his accuracy diminished considerably. You have to watch more closely and you'll see that. What's impressive is he didn't have a lot of pressure. is offensively was probably the best in the AAC. Again I have no agenda. I want the best QB perhaps BO'B sees Bortles mistakes are fixable and has him pegged. I do not pretend to know if they are. He will never have TB's quick feet. But maybe he can be quick enough.
I think it is obvious that Bortles is a bigger project than Bridgewater, or even Manziel at this point from a mechanics perspective. He is an intriguing prospect, but he does some stuff under pressure that is plain scary from a prospect perspective. Not a good scary either.
He's passes on some routes today were not accurate at all. I don't like him at 1 maybe later in the round
This guy looks like a less accurate version of Matt Schaub. He is a second to third rounder in any other draft. He is a more athletic version of TJ Yates.
I'm not saying Blake is the best quarterback out there. But like Mike Mayock said that some coaches look at a quarterback and see what he can be and not what he is. Blake has all the physical tools and mental make up and that may be all O'Brien cares about. Everyone had Geno pegged to pretty much go #6 to Cleveland last year and E.J. as a 2nd-3rd round pick. E.J. had that size, mobility, and arm and ended up going in the 1st but Geno was the better passer and fell to the 2nd. Blake had a much better S.O.S. than Teddy by the way. He played 3 ranked teams plus Houston and Penn State. And he did damage on the road and hostile environments. And with Clowney being weak on the bench press and Johnny and Teddy having their question marks and not having the cojones to throw... If Blake has a good pro day this draft is set up for the Texans to do something out the box and draft him.
I'm believing TODAY that it will be Bortles or Clowney. One would make me wonder if this franchise will ever get it and the other will give me a defensive boner.
I'd choose that infinite times over taking Bortles #1. But, it takes two to tango. And I don't believe anyone is trading up for Blake freakin' Bortles.
People keep bringing up schedule but that's just a talking point. You have to watch video. It's easy to see Bortles was tested less in the games he played. His offensive line was the best in the AAC and kept him protected better. Teddy B on the other hand was under more pressure and looked to have a pretty pathetic Oline. S.O.S. means nothing if Bortles is throwing without pressure. There is no question even with his bad mechanics he is accurate. But if you watch film/video there is also no question TB is much better under pressure and on the run and in the pocket. Probably I would think more highly of Bortles if it weren't for Bridgewater. He does remind me a lot of Andrew Luck. He's not as refined but maybe BO'B thinks he can refine him. He definitely has good size and he is mobile enough.
I don't want him but you can't judge on throwing drills at the combine. Yes there is no defense do it should be easy, but if you don't know your receivers it can be really tough.
Watch "Blake Bortles (QB UCF) vs South Carolina 2013" on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYd29xlmc04&feature=youtube_gdata_player Blake Vs Clowney Blake had 2 interceptions and a fumble this game. But mind you this is a #12 ranked SEC team (at the time they played them) with NFL prospects on the defensive side of the ball going up against an AAC team. Despite his mistakes he didn't look bad.

Big time night home pressure game for Louisville and Teddy didn't respond well to the pressure.

And watching his on field running and how he makes players miss discounts his 40 time. He's more athletic than Luck. The way Clowney looked on the bench press, Blake could be Charlie Sheen in this draft.
