So the guy that was being recruited to one of the best teams in the country to play receiver isn't athletic?

He played a top 5 team and tore them up. Small sample size but it was a BCS game.

But yes his brain is definitely where he shines.

Pretty good analyst; I think he's based in the west coast. I think he's actually a fan of Bridgewater. But I can't speak to the validity of his sources.

Because he's black? Considering he graduated in 3 years I'd imagine he's smart enough? Wouldn't be surprised if he scored higher than Bortles.

nothing to do with race, other than it being politically incorrect to discuss

I'll tell you this -- BO'B will care about his mental capability and his wonderlic

He just needs to hit over 20 imo. O'Brien is a smart coach and knows it's more about his football iq and passion for the game.

    Other QB wonderlic scores:
    Eli Manning 39
    Peyton Manning 28

    Marino 15
    Jim Kelly 15
    Steve McNair 15
    Cam Newton 21
    Brett Farve 22

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2005/draft/players/64079.html

BIO: Junior college transfer who made a major mark on the Cal program the past two seasons. All-Conference selection as a senior after posting 66.1 percent/2,566/24/8. Also added 247 yards rushing with three additional scores. Junior quarterbacking totals were 61.6 percent/2,903/19/5.

POSITIVES: Athletic passer with the physical skills and mental intangibles needed to lead a franchise at the next level. Quickly sets up in the pocket, sells ball fakes and technically very sound. Poised under the rush, steps up to avoid defenders and works to keep the play alive. Patient, buys time in the pocket and waits for receivers to come free. Does an excellent job with his reads and natural looking off the safety. Does not make mental errors and throws the ball away rather than toss the errant pass. Times the short and intermediate throws well, as receivers rarely wait for the ball out of their breaks. Outstanding vision and immediately spots the open receiver. Possesses a quick release, live arm and zips the outs or gets the ball downfield. Throws with touch. Sits in the pocket and takes a big hit in order to get the pass off. Fleet-footed and picks up yardage with his legs when necessary.

NEGATIVES: Though accurate, lacks top pass placement and has receivers extending vertically to pull the ball out of the air. Must improve his accuracy down the field. Lacks top footwork releasing the ball off a three step drop. Lacks pocket stature.

ANALYSIS: A physically gifted passer with a great understanding of the position, Rodgers has made himself one of the nation's top quarterback prospects the past two seasons. May not fit every system, but should quickly flourish in the NFL for a timing offense that does not throw the ball down the field with regularity. Offers a good amount of upside and is a coachable player who should continually improve his game.

    PROJECTION: Early First Round

    1. * Aaron Rodgers #8 - 6'2" 220 lbs. - Cal - Sp. 4.7 Rating 92
    Hindu Theory - Joe Montana
Talented strong-armed junior passer finished his career with back-to-back excellent efforts as a junior and sophomore. Aaron is an excellent passer who combines arm strength, mechanics and delivery to make all the throws. He is a well-built athlete with both a live arm and quick feet to give an offense a versatile threat under center. He has developed quickly as an athlete, improving in every aspect of QB play over his two-year starting career under the tutelage of HC Jeff Tedford. He has filled out as an athlete and possesses a strong live arm with the mobility to be a threat on the perimeter and the agility to throw on the move. He has quick footwork that creates passing lanes and allows him to avoid the pass rush, though he has only adequate footspeed to scramble outside the pocket. He has a compact quick delivery with sound mechanics that allows him to throw the ball very accurately on a game to game basis. He is a good ball handler and carries carry out play action well with good fakes In his basic setup, he is quick to get back in the pocket with the footwork to plant and drill the ball down the field. He has excellent pocket presence with keen awareness of his unit and the quick decision making to identify defensive coverage and get the ball to the hot receiver. He has improved significantly as a passer each season, showing good arm strength to throw the out and deep ball and the uncanny accuracy in the intermediate and short game to cut defenses apart. He shows rare field vision that has allowed him to make the proper read throughout the game and seldom forcing the ball into heavy coverage. In the pocket, he looks off the safety better than any recent college passer in addition to identifying defensive coverage quicker to make the quick decision and throw. His accuracy is in a class by itself whether throwing the slant, out, or deep pass. He has learned to put air under his throws to allow his receivers to make plays. He has exceptional timing and accuracy to the point that he hits receivers in stride consistently and allows them to break a play after the reception. He shows courage in the pocket and waits until the last minute to fire the ball to the open receiver. He can make all the throws with the toughness to hang in the pocket and take the hit and get the ball off and not be intimidated by a strong hit. In big game situations, he impressed scouts with his arm both from an accuracy and velocity standpoint in addition to his smarts and mobility to manage a game with minimal mistakes and unnecessary risks. He needs work on the finer points of the position to maximize his fine throwing arm and athleticism. Though he is not a finished performer at this point, he developed quickly over his short career and responded well to pressure situations. He became the key component on a Cal club that was an annual doormat in the Pac 10 prior to his starting time. Over his two seasons, he was the only QB to beat USC that he accomplished during his sophomore season and almost achieved again last fall when he fell just short despite a great performance. He shows the ability to adjust quickly to new situations and make the correct decision. For a young passer, he shows fine poise and composure that allowed him to elevate the play of his unit and bring the Cal program back to bowl status after a long dry spell. During the course of a game, he gets into an excellent passing rhythm that increases his confidence immensely and that positive attitude gets conveyed to his teammates to play at a higher level. He has a good feel for backside pressure in the pocket with fine foot quickness to avoid a rush and the ability to pull the ball down and make positive yardage. He has the frame to fill out further and checked in at an even 6’2” at the NFL Combine, fine height for a starting passer.

Interesting info on combine drills. "Of all drills that can measure agility and quickness, the 20-yard shuttle is easily the most telling indication of a player’s shot-area explosiveness."

    Harvard Sports Analysis

It all makes so much sense. Since when is a QB going to run a straight lin 40 yards downfield. And what difference does his vertical matter. His not dunking the football. It is most important he is quick in the pocket and throw downfield.

    Johnny Manziel - 4.03
    RUssell Wilson - 4.09
    Colin Kaepernick - 4.18
    Cam Newton - 4.18
    Teddy Bridgewater - 4.20
    Tony Romo - 4.20
    Drew Brees - 4.21
    Blake Bortles - 4.21
    Joe Flacco - 4.27
    Andrew Luck - 4.27
    Ryan Tannehill - 4.28
    Jay Cutler - 4.31
    Tom Brady - 4.38
    Josh Freeman - 4.43
    Matt Ryan - 4.51
    Matt Schaub - 4.66

There's no question in my mind Teddy B came in packing a few pounds more than he will probably carry starting the season. It probably effected his times but he passed the most important drill for a NFL QB. His agility is more than adequate for the pro game. Add that with his great footwork and he's a no brainer. Teddy came into the combine IMO as the best skills QB by far in the draft. He needed to reach certain measurements and pass certain drills at a minimum level and in my book he cleared them easily. He will still have to run and throw on proday but he will.

People forget he is not and never will be Cam Newton. He is a pocket passer he posseses great footwork and some agility.

One other thought is Manziel is amazing back there. He probably helped himself more than any QB. His size is a non factor to me. I still am not convinced he will be able to be a pocket passer but with someone like him you can take a bet. He'll be gone early in the draft.

I do agree that the 3 cone drill and 20 yard shuttle are too often overlooked. The 40 is fun and all but for the most part not very important depending on what position you're looking at, like QB.

Tb did pretty well in to shuttle but I'm surprised he didn't do better in the 3 cone. Still not bad though. Jordan Lynch did destroy the 3 cone drill though. Pretty impressive time.

Questioning Teddy Bridgewater's wonderlick, whatever it was, is almost as asinine as questioning Clowney's bench press. No unbiased person questions Teddy's intelligence or Clowney's strength. Unless Teddy got a 3 on it, then it doesn't matter.

Let me rephrase: Bigtexx is questioning a non existent number. There is no info on his score and bigtexx just hoping and praying it's bad. Clowney has a real number. He only lifted 21 times. A punter did more than that. A freaking punter did better and that's a fact.
