Aldon Smith wasn't in consideration for the #1 overall pick and nor was he considered a "Once In A Generation" prospect. Many thought Smith would fall to the Texans. And Aldon's weak bench press shows when Justin Smith isn't on the field with him. The bench press isn't the say all be all but when drafting a player #1 overall _ barley 20 reps isn't impressive. Especially for a guy with that physical make up. Clowney said he was going to put up unbelievable #'s and so far he is...
Justin Smith is one of the most underrated NFL players today You can give half of Aldon's sacks to Smith
If Aldon Smith had run a 4.45 rather than a 4.78 40 then he probably would have been considered more of a "once in a generation prospect"
Aldon Smith was labeled as a once in a lifetime prospect either. Its not that its just horrible but to be labeled a "freak" seems to be over exaggerated.
You sound a lot like BigTexx with comments like that. We understand you don't like Bridgewater but you have no idea why he didn't run the 40. It's probable that he is not as fast as he'd like to be at this weight and you have the right to knock him for that. But to question his heart for competition consistently over a number of threads is baseless and reaks of troll. I think you're better than that. As far as Clowney goes, I guess his bench is a disappointment but not sure why it matters at all. Someone what 30 years ago decided the bench press was going to be the determining strength factor for nfl players? Would hardly use that info to justify whether he was my first pick.
I don't ACTUALLY think that he's afraid of competition and I agree that questioning a player's work ethic or heart for competition is baseless and reeks of troll, I'm simply tired of hearing the Clowney work ethic trope that comes from Bridgewater fans and was showing how ridiculous it is by doing the same thing to their guy. Bridgewater isn't "really afraid of competition, but he put on a bunch of fake weight and didn't want to put up a bunch of bad numbers.
Exactly....!!!! And not to mention Aldon turned out NOT TO BE the best defensive player in that draft... When you got people pointing at your work ethic and saying you have motor issues and the fact you only had 3 sacs... You can't show up at the combine and wuss out on the bench. And I don't mean YOU I mean Clowney.
So many trolls on this board. It is annoying to post on here sometimes. Aldon Smith before his ordeal with drugs, was on pace to set the all time sacks record. Aldon Smith would have been a once in a generational prospect had he been capable of running a 4.5/4.4 time like Clowney even with those bench numbers. I'm sure half the naysayers have never walked in to a gym in their life. You have trolls like Remii who purposely say things for reaction. If you are being serious, may god have mercy on your soul.
Explain? How Justin Smith(a declining Justin Smith, might I add) is the sole reason for 50 percent of Aldon's success? Stop talking out of your butt and add some real insight.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Jadeveon Clowney's wingspan is within an inch of LeBron James'. Sweatin' 21 reps? C'mon. <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23NFLCombine&src=hash">#NFLCombine</a></p>— Chris Sprow (@SprowESPN) <a href="https://twitter.com/SprowESPN/statuses/437710906848321537">February 23, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
J Smith would routinely swallow up 2-3 blockers often time leaving Aldon 1-1 with a TE or RB The best pure 3-4 DE in the league (Watts role is different)
of course ESPN is going to come to clown3y's defense... the bottomline is clown3y said: It's safe to say he has not delivered.
Why don't you keep my name out your mouth and stop crying and just state your opinion with facts and or information to back it up besides your personal bench press reps with your buddies... Lol..
