What a pitiful social taxonomy you've drawn up in your mind to produce that horrible analogy. Turn off Laura Ingraham for three seconds and meet some real people.

It certainly isn't the worst thing to come out lately. In fact, most of it's harmless.

But nobody should deny that it's disgusting to mock people who's lives you've ruined, and it does show a detachment from the reality most people live in.

Eric Holder has admitted as much that a lot of the big banks are "too big to prosecute", so he has to tread carefully.

Under any moral code that makes any sense, what happened in 2008 and after should be a crime of the second highest magnitude. The only thing I consider more heinous is using violence to repress expression.

The fact they're singing about it shouldn't be viewed in isolation. It's utterly disgusting, and the cherry on top of a list of ways they've screwed the working and middle class.

It's different when you're the cause of the problem. These people - not intentionally, but through their actions - destroyed people's livelihoods. They crushed people's retirement accounts, cost them their jobs. Their actions led people to depression, suicide, etc. And then laughed about the whole thing.

It's no different than falling asleep behind the wheel of a car, causing a wreck where the other driver is paralyzed for life, and then making fun of them afterwards. It's sick and twisted and shows a complete lack of basic decency.

I wonder about people dismissing this fully: would you laugh it off if someone was DUI, killed somebody, then sang about it?

That's not a correct analogy; there was avarice and imprudence at every rung in the ladder. Most notably mid-level underwriters and commercial bankers trading solvency for volume and enabling irrational borrowing.

Repubs have done this very effectively. Reagan and the welfare queen started us down this path of class inequality.

I think you are getting a little dramatic about it. They also made fun of Stephen A Cohen and Corzine.

It probably started a little earlier as traditionalists and working class whites came to conflate integration with socialism and later welfare, as mortgage/auto lending and salaried service jobs made them less dependent on those entitlements while minorities and women got more equitable access to them. But this is a good analogy as it reminds me of all the kvetching over food stamps being spent on grocery store lobster, or god forbid, junk food.

As the OP, my opinion of this piece is that they're doing God's Work, so it's good to let off some steam on the ungrateful masses.

Like I said, it's not surprising. It's just a weird insight to the Good Ol Boys network.

There probably wasn't any women under 22 (give or take 5 years...)

So maybe there's something wrong in the idea that it's not surprising considering this is 2014.

Why? Do you disagree that it's pretty sick to joke about people you've hurt?

I'm not sure the relevance. Does it make it better that they also made fun of other people?:confused:

They've already underwritten their contrition with those ghastly round robin TAARP bailouts. Had a scare with their signing bonuses in that 18 month act of fascist tyranny.

Really though, their mentality is that you can buy off guilt, so you better negotiate well because guilt (i.e. the settlement) is more of a one off piece of leverage.

That they're divorced from it now stems from that mindset.

back in my country, after sniffing a line of grinded coffee beans from a call girl's back side, we would throw midgets around in the office. very true story. the one in the article seems a little tame. was expecting more that's all.

and if I find a bunch of mid-level underwriters singing about their bailouts, I will be equally sickened.

The top rung of the ladder went rampant. This is beyond dispute.

The difference between the top 1% and the next 1% is greater than the difference between the bottom 1% and the bottom 40%. If you can tell much of a difference between bottom 1% parties and bottom 40% parties, you have a discerning eye.

Proof that these people in the room are "the cause of the problem?"

And it's utterly hilarious how the socialists are trying to group the 1% into some big group, which clearly is defined by this silly frat party. Clearly, the 1% are a group with the same ideals, viewpoints, and interests, and there is no real difference between the Koch brothers and Warren Buffett.

Man I was expecting something big to happen, major dissapointment when the peice ended, also people need to not be so sensitive, if your favourite comedian made these jokes you would all laugh, stop having a cry about it

Are you trying to suggest the major banks were not a primary cause of the financial meltdown? That's a whole different discussion but I'd be curious to hear your argument behind that.

I think it's utterly hilarious that you try to use such broad generalizations like "the socialists" are all trying to do something while trying to bash broad generalizations. Funny factoid: outside of rudan's random post and rimrocker's sort of sidebar reply, not a single person - except you - even mentioned the 1% here. Everyone else was talking about the people at this party. Who are these utterly hilarious socialists you're referring to? I guess strawmans are a good way to distract from the topic, though.

Nobody's favorite comedian is making a joke about people who's lives he ruined. Maybe if you wouldn't have a cry about people pointing out how disgusting it is to ruin someone's life and then make fun of them none of this would be necessary.
