Wow I never thought this thread would last a month and a half when si made it right before the Baylor-UCF game. I can't believe this guy is a serious contender.
Better be prepared.

I'm not one for speculation, but my guy confirms something @nfldraftscout & @dpbrugler have said. If draft were today, #Texans take Bortles.
— Benjamin Allbright (@AllbrightNFL) February 21, 2014

Well he did himself a favor by not being afraid of throwing at the combine like others who want to be considered for the #1 spot, however, he'll have to actually perform.
It's trending towards most of the 1st round prospects not throwing. The only reason I think Bortles is throwing is because he's got #1 overall buzz. If it end up not happening, he could still go top 10. Big opportunity for him.
There is an article about it here: http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-dr...ine-blake-bortles-johnny-manziel-quarterbacks Some highlights: Even if you are one of the totally in the tank for Teddy type people, you have to love the kid's attitude.
Yeap Blake is not hurting himself and Cam Newton had the same attitude going into the combine and many didn't consider him a #1 pick. And he's also kicking dirt on the other quarterbacks in the process... Smart kid.
I wish Teddy threw. I think it would have been a good idea on his part. This should help Blake's stock a little bit.
I give the kid credit for throwing. But if he has improved his mechanics at all it was a must decision for him. Of all the top QB's I watched he has the slowest release and the worst footwork. More than inspiration it's desperation for him to throw on Sunday. He has to debunk the film more than anyone. If he doesn't he could drop. Watch the Louisville game. He looks okay on the surface. He certainly can complete an open pass. But under closer scrutiny you can see he has a slow release and under pressure his footwork sucks. He completed only 3 of 13. Compare that to TB who in the same game was 18-21 under pressure. Bortles more than anyone needs to show his release and mechanics have improved more than anyone and he knows that Sunday may be his only chance to show some GM's who may send there lesser decisionmakers to pro day if they go at all.
Oh don't get me wrong, I don't like any of these QB's at the number one pick, I wasn't suggesting we pick Bortles by any stretch. I was just giving him credit for having confidence that Bridgewater lacks. It's still a no brainer to go with Clowney especially since he's slimmed down to fit the OLB spot better.
I'm not sold on this Bortles kid. I just don't see it. And my opinion should be taken very strongly on this because I'm also the guy who thought Ryan Leaf would be better than Manning.
I think his decision not to throw at the combine despite the fact that Bortles is going to shows exactly that. If RG3 was going to throw at the Combine last year, do you think there is any way Andrew Luck wouldn't have? Of course not.
I disagree. Foot work and mechanics is something O'Brien may feel he can fix since he's a quarterback developer. I think you're concentrating too much on that. Throw in the fact that Bortles doesn't have small hands, he's a big boy, and he's a legitimate duel threat quarterback. The more I watch him the more he reminds me of Cam. Especially in the Baylor game. And he's played against good competition. And if you watched the 2nd half of the Louisville game, Teddy looked shaky and Bortles looked like the best quarterback on the field. Teddy and Johnny are in no position to act like they are sure fire #1 picks. Bortles has the opportunity to put himself ahead of the pack tomorrow and Teddy and Johnny could be making a big mistake for letting him.
Bortles has an opportunity to move himself back in the discussion. Bortles to quarterback training just like everyone else and if he has improved he needs to show the pros now or maybe never. I agree BOB can help him improve. But that doesn't mean he doesn't have a lot of flaws now. He does. Watch the second half again and watch who has the most pressure and who handles the pressure better. it's easy to throw when no one is blitzing and there is no pressure. Bortles does well in those situations but his footwork and mechanics are poor and his release.
Bortles was never not in the discussion. There is no obvious best QB in this class, so there was always several QB's "in the discussion"
