There we go with you seemingly forgetting the history of GM's who reach for QB's.... You act as though what I said was some kind of advanced concept when it's actually just a very obvious statement backed by draft history.
It isn't what you said. It is how you say things. You say it as if you are the GM or if you are a scout. You don't talk humbly, but I guess looking at the username, Bobby "THE GREAT", it all makes sense. The Texans will draft a QB with the 1st, or trade down to do the same. Clowney has too many red flags, and when your own coach comes out and questions your work ethic, it doesn't bode well.
Nah, just going off what most, if not all the reports out of the combine are saying. The Clowney squad is very few. You are driving a sinking ship. I stated before that it is evident you like to cause attention to yourself. Everyone knows Clowney is going to have a mind-blowing combine. But has it been in the Texans past history to draft a player with issues. The same issues that plagued Mario Williams(they both have a love for fast rides). I think they take a QB, because they have already sailed this ship before, and at the end of the day, that v6 motor only showed up half the time.
Ah, so they should have picked Vince Young, in your opinion? Fair enough, I disagree. They HAVE sailed this ship twice before, once they went for need and got a QB, once they went with BPA and got the defensive player. Also, if you keep going on with that "red flag" nonsense about motor, you are only embarrassing yourself, if you watched him play, you'd see it simply is not the case. I get why you are on the QB desperation bandwagon, but you don't have to try to tear down hands down the best prospect in the draft in an attempt to justify it.
Watch "UCF VS Lousiville 2013 Full Game (2nd Half)" on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TGavOmgvsA&feature=youtube_gdata_player When Bortles was asked to throw the ball he looked good... Watch the entire 2nd half. If I've never heard of Teddy and Blake and just watched them both in the 2nd half of this game and how they played under pressure I would take Blake over Teddy hands down. And unlike Teddy, Blake was going up against NFL talent and a big time defensive coach in Charlie Strong. That was a big time win. Blake has played 3 ranked teams this year and his team has went 2-1 (that's not counting Penn State) Johnny went 1-3 (beating Duke) and Teddy faced no ranked teams. Blake has multiple signature wins this past season and Johnny and Teddy really don't have even one. I don't have a dog in this fight so I'm just being objective. And that Storm Johnson kid looks good. I hope the Texans are looking at him. Could be a late round gem. He has a great all around skill set.
Tearing down? I don't think anything I said was tearing down. His coach tore him down. His own coach questioned his work ethic. His former teammate basically said he has to be controlled to work hard. Those are red flags that will help the Texans make their decision. Their is no QB desperation bandwagon here. I actually believe that Matt Schuab would be successful in O'Brien's offense. I just think that Teddy Bridgewater has a chance to be elite. Even more so than Clowney.
That could also be perceived that the Texans NEED a right tackle... Or the Texans NEED a pass rusher. But what they don't NEED is a quarterback because we still have two under contract and McNair has previously stated that if they draft a quarterback he probably won't start. So that means the quarterback isn't considered a position of NEED, It's a position and a player they would want. So I don't take those statements to necessarily mean that the Texans are not looking to take a quarterback, those statements to me mean they could.
Yup, I think that was a reach, either way though, it doesn't matter. If they think the best talent is QB for some crazy reason, then that's what I want them to draft. If a pass rusher is seen as the best talent, then they should go that route. Of course, if their valuations are wrong, they'll get fired for it.
I agree. Take the best player available regardless of position. I can guarantee you there is no game changer QB like Andrew Luck in this draft but there is a player available in Clowney that can be the best player at his position in the NFL. If I am not getting a Luck type of QB in the draft than I am not wasting my #1 pick on second tier QB. Pick the BPA.
Yea, who can't block or pass rush and don't have nearly as much money committed as Schaub which makes those more of a position of need.
It could be a good sign that Clowney cut some weight to better fit the OLB position, he REALLY wants to play with the Texans to re-join his former teammate Swearinger and his former coach Craig Fitzgerald. It just looks like a no-brainer, especially if he really is running 4.4 40's
If the Texans feel that the "red flags" are something that can be corrected, than they should take him. He has been getting a lot of negative press. I wouldn't doubt that if he follows JJ Watt around the complex day after day, than you will have a top 3 defense in the league. Just so many what ifs with Clowney. I am excited to see his 40 yard and 10 yard splits.
The better question is if they feel the "red flags" even exist in the first place. They have his former S&C coach and one of his former teammates on the squad already so they'd know better than anyone.
