I guess he's our Casspi replacement for next season. Although it's going to be interesting how Kostas battles it out with Covington for that backup Small Forward spot next year.
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm The Rockets are allowed to pay up to 625K towards a buy out of his current contract. The Luxury Tax Threshold (2013/2014 season) is 71.748 million Tax Apron (4 million over the Tax threshold) is 75.748 million Rockets salary (including options) going into next season is 63.22 million Houston has: The full Non-Tax Payer Mid Level Exception worth 5.464 million Bi Annual Exception worth 2.139 million (providing Houston has not used it this season) Those exceptions can not be used to move the teams salary over the tax apron.
Thanks for the useful info ...As you said Rockets salary next year will be 63.22m so this summer they can only sign minimum salary players (without using the Non-Tax Payer Mid Level Exception AND the Bi Annual Exception)... Both of the exceptions are for two years contracts right ? I think Papanikolaou could turn in a good role player but not like Parsons, so the lack of Bird rights can be less useful. Thanks again.
This guy has some game. Looks like he might be our rotational wing next year which I would be fine with.
Most of these guys get signed on contracts starting at 1.5 million or 3.5 million if they're established stars like Scola. Jasikevicius is the only guy I can recall getting around 5 million but his contract was not the norm.
Need to check again, but I think he was named Eruo DPOY last year (which, for the cynical among us, is like being named world's tallest midget). The knock from NBA scouts was actually on his shot, but that seems to be in order now. He's a good all-around player. My brother-in-law watches a lot of Euro ball, and Kostas is his favorite player right now. I am a little surprised no one has been talking about him around this trade deadline. He's sort of under the radar around here — almost a forgotten piece of the TRob deal. Ironically, he could turn out to be a better player than TRob. Anyway, the kid is legit. His agent said a year ago that he really wanted to come to the NBA. Lot's of upside, apparently. I would love to see him with the team next year to see how he does, but do not be surprised if he is included in a deal over the summer.
The Rockets can split the mid level exception up on multiple players if they want. They don't have to use the entire mid level exception on one player.
