Johnny Manziel reminds me of Chris Paul. A guy that looks like a little turd and is inferior in almost every physical measurement compared to his competitors. But he simply goes out and cuts the nuts off his opponents and rips their still beating heart out of their chest with his bare hand and holds it up triumphantly while their eyes slowly sink into the death gaze as they realize in those final fleeing moments that its too late and they are............................................................
Honestly, I don't think there's really anything to lose for these QB's to throw, unless they show an up close look at a problem that everyone already knew about. I mean let's think logically about this, NFL scouts have probably already seen these guys all year long, if a 45 min. throwing session to guys you've never worked with, can make you take or not take a guy, then maybe your franchise doesn't really know what they're doing..... The interviews, timed runs, lifting, I get all of that. But I just don't think the throwing can really do that much....
Johnny Manziel reminds you of a fish writhing on the deck of a fishing boat? Does he punch fools in the junk?
If you liked him before the combine, then yes to both. If you didn't like him before the combine, then no to both. Seriously, does anybody want to go on record as indicating that their mind was changed by the weigh in?
There aren't any changes? I've always thought certain combine results can make big differences. Like 6-1 CB would be big size, but if he was 5-10 he'd be nothing special. Or 40 times for receivers, etc. What you described seems to imply his actual measurements weren't much different from norm. But I remember hearing many draft prospects had their stock rise/drop because of combine.
Everybody had a pretty decent idea more or less where he'd be before the combine. It wasn't a big deviation from what most people expected. He is on the smallish side of average which everybody knew. He's been scrutinized enough as a potential 1st overall pick that everybody had a pretty good idea. I guess he could have come in much shorter and lighter than he did, which might have caused a stir, but he was never going to be 6'6" 240 lbs which is what it would take to satisfy everybody. Most of the complaints about his size have been "eye test" deals, where people look at him and think he looks thin. No matter what the scales said, he's still going to look on the thin side.
Don't think so. Even his own coach Leary said the kid is not ready. He did go on to say no one is. Andrew Lucks don't come out every year. But to say that to the media about your own player is pretty telling. he should have just shut his mouth. And Bortles should have shut his. It's not a big thing but the fact that he is throwing on Sunday must make him think he needs to because the film on him shows some glaring weaknesses. That's what I saw anyway.
I'm getting tired of this coach repeating the same stuff to the media. Yea Bortles beat us so he's good. Looks more and more like they will pick bortles
I was just telling you what he said. I didn't say I would draft him #1. I wouldn't take any of these QBs #1 overall.
I'm not sold on any of these quarterbacks. Bridgewater may (or may not) be the best of the group, but when you broaden the comparison set to previous QB draft classes or existing QB starters in the NFL, he's not looking very good. He strikes me as a good prospect, but not an elite prospect -- and scouts have agreed with that. With the #1 draft pick, you want a player that is elite at his position, not just good. Clowney is the pick. I'm curious to see Bridgewater's wonderlic score -- I think that's very important for him. O'Brien really focuses on the mental side -- intelligence, good decision making, quick decision making, toughness. I'm not sold on Bridgewater's qualifications in these areas.
^^ agreed. Bridgewater's wonderlic score is an unknown at this point. The guys with the elite wonderlic scores in the NFL right now include Brady, Rodgers and Andrew Luck. BO'B is used to dealing with Brady, one of the NFL's most intelligent QBs. BO'B needs a cerebral QB. Will Bridgewater be that guy? don't know. What I do know is that as a pocket passer, Bridgewater will need to have that cerebral element to succeed in the NFL. He's not a Cam Newtwon type scrambler where intelligence is less relevant.
No one questions Bridgewater's intelligence, or rather, no one should. His intelligence is by far the best thing about him.
Any particular reason why you're not sold? These traits are some of the better aspects of his game. He was routinely required to make more pre-snap decisions than any college qb, and more than some NFL quarterbacks, per his coaching staff. He only threw three or four ints all year based off these reads, and two of those were tipped passes... I think a wonderlic would be nothing for Teddy. The guy eats, sleeps, and breathes football, by all accounts. And while he's not a pure scrambler, he's not a Matt Schaub-type statue in the pocket, either. As has been said before, his game is very comparable to Aaron Rodgers'. I'm not saying he's as good as Rodgers, but his skill set is comparable. I will be slightly disappointed if he runs any slower than a 4.65. That's where I expect him to be. I wouldn't mind Clowbey, but I see no way to justify it. He has red flags of his own. The problem, though, is that best case for Clowney, and you could end up with upwards of 40% of your cap tied up in two defensive players. Who would you have at quarterback, then? It'd be impossible to field a competitive team like that, and you'd be stuck drafting a new quarterback, or signing an average to below average starter every three to five years.
You're talking about at the earliest 5 years down the line, who knows what the cap will even look like then? Who knows if JJ Watt is still playing football then? You don't shy away from the best player in the draft due to what might happen half a decade from now. Also, why not worry that best case for Teddy we have to pay him a 120+ million dollar contract down the line which eats up all of the cap space? How would we field a complete team then?
It's true you shouldn't worry about those things, but it has to play some part. And if you pay Teddy, you're at least not spreading yourself totally thin in doing so.
