You can say exactly the same thing about every successful NBA player before they got significant minutes. The rockets must like what they have seen from Canaan up to this point or they probably would have kept Brooks.
I wonder if there are any point guards who could get bought out of their contract soon that the Rockets could sign.
I really wish we would've kept AB if we're going to pick up Granger off waivers. Now we have redundancy at the backup 3 position.
I was happy that he was traded because it had to be approved by him but now after reading this.. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>.<a href="https://twitter.com/franblinebury">@franblinebury</a> reports that Aaron Brooks said yesterday that he wouldn't approve a trade: <a href="http://t.co/xaB48BpgIp">http://t.co/xaB48BpgIp</a></p>— John Schuhmann (@johnschuhmann) <a href="https://twitter.com/johnschuhmann/statuses/436584901396414464">February 20, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I would have preferred getting Wilson Chandler or Luol Deng. But I guess Morey doesn't have the pieces to put such a trade together. I don't think this trade makes us any better.
[rQUOTEr]Zach Lowe (2:03 PM EST) Breaking: Daryl Morey somehow just got Jordan Hamilton for Aaron Brooks. Morey loves to take shots on failed projects who once had first-round talent, and Hamilton fits the bill. He looks like he could be a silky scorer, only he never really scores efficiently and plays zippo defense. He dominates summer league with herky-jerky off-the-bounce stuff and midpost scoring that doesn’t translate to the NBA. But he’s got good size, he’s a league-average 3-point shooter, and he’s on a cheapo expiring deal. I could see Houston giving him a small shot if they try to revive the small-ball lineups they’ve ditched of late. It’s not like Francisco Garcia is lighting the world on fire. The Rox have no space for Brooks, barring a Jeremy Lin deal, which they’ve tried like heck to execute all day. Denver needs a point guard, since they have zero healthy ones. But they’re toast this season anyway, as far as the playoffs go.[/rQUOTEr] http://grantland.com/features/the-trade-deadline-diary/
I think a Lin/Shumpert deal would have happened had Shump not gotten injured last night. Brooks would still be here as the backup PG.
I'm sure when speaking in generalities he meant it. But when provided the opportunity to get significant playing time, it was an offer too good to be true. For as little as the trade dies for the Rockets, it almost feels like a favor for Aaron Brooks.
Well, AB is a good player and instead of going to the D-league to not get rusty he decided to keep his skills fresh and play for another contract in Denver. Hopefully he will sign here again...best PG insurance policy possible. Dude always came through and we even played better sometimes with him.
If Brooks had answered yes to that question the speculation would have run rampant. He did the smart thing by saying no. He was probably told to say no....maybe even months before. The truth is Brooks does not have a future here. Just like he didn't when Morey signed him in July. Brooks is a marginal NBA player. There are players in the dleague and in Europe, Argentina, everywhere, who are just as good or better. Brooks is a smart opportunist however and has found a way to squeeze a few more NBA dollars out of his career by being flexible. More power to him. And don't be surprised if Morey offers him another minimum deal this summer if he bombs out in Denver. But also dont be surprised if he averages 18/4 the rest of the season and some stupid team throws Raymond Felton money at him this summer either.
what the hell are you talking about? He is a solid backup. Don't be stupid, he had more guaranteed money elsewhere and chose to sign here for less per Morey. Did you even watch the games where he stepped in? He proved to be solid just about every time.
He does, and that is shocking a bit - but understandable if they plan to go forward with Lin and Bev. DD
