AB was too good a player to be wasting away on the bench, even here in Houston. He deserves to play, and he deserves to get another decent payday. This move may have been as much about doing a solid for AB as it was about improving our roster.
Watched Jordan quite a bit while he was at UT. Guy can definitely score, but can be somewhat of a streak shooter and is about athletic as they come. Had an issue with defensive effort (and effort in general); haven't really followed him since he was with the Nugs. Also, he's straight out of Compton, fwiw.
Casspi has given some decent spot minutes here and there, and I'm not sure many teams would be interested in Brewer. Nice to have another option at the position and opens up some room for Canaan. Far from a moronic move with AB playing minimal this season.
I'm sad to see AB go. I always loved watching him blast past people off the dribble and knock down the three ball. I'll never forget those alley oops that no one was expecting. Good luck Aaron and Godspeed.
Canaan may need some time, but garbage time minutes (like last night) would be more beneficial to him than AB.
He would have gotten minutes in the rotation, if he was ready to play. AB was our insurance for Lin and Bev.
He already approved it first of all. Secondly, Brooks wasn't even playing at all anyway and Hamilton is an upgrade over Garcia which actually fills a need. Not a sexy trade by any means but certainly a solid one. Worst case scenario, Hamilton doesn't beat out Garcia (which is almost impossible) and our rotation doesn't change at all.
So for the "failed" reclamation projects, Rockets lost a first rounder for TWill, Number 23 pick (used to move up in draft for Motiejunas), a second round pick (used to get Motiejunas) and a bunch of expiring contracts, crappy player, and/or players Rockets had to trade for the reclamation projects, Motiejunas, a draft pick used in Harden trade, rights to two guys in Europe, ~17% of cap space for Howard, and 2 second round picks in upcoming drafts. TWill was the only true failure as he was the big part of the deal and something of value in future years was given up to get him. TRob, as poor as he played, was traded for good assets and Patterson had to go any way to create cap space. Rockets subsequently used cash (and possibly whining about a physical not being passed) to get the 2nd round pick in DMo deal back. This pick became Parsons.
That's the scary part. If Lin/Bev go down, God forbid, I'm not ready to put that type of faith in Canaan.
