Maybe I overrated his defense a bit to retort him being a horrible defender. I think decent defender would be better, and if I remember correctly, his length was a major part of that. I do remember his feet being a little slow.
Oh, well if Tim Legler says it. The number of East Coast homers is hilarious. Rondo is too much of a risk. If it doesn't work out, you lose either Parsons or a pick or both.
I watched J-Ham for 2 years in Austin. Catch-and-fire treys are his bread & butter. But, he struggles to create his own shot and is heavy-footed on D. That being said, I like this move because of his age & 3-pt stroke.
Regardless of whether the Rockets get him or not, Rondo gets defenses to converge and stand still around the elbows. That allows cutters and post players to get the ball at the rim. It the same effect as a post player demanding a double-team and dumping it to the cutter for an easy basket. The Rockets are not the genius managers I thought they were if they pass on Rondo. He opens parts of the playbook that only wizards and oracles of the great game dare touch. And no, that's not a joke, it's poetic license to describe a player that doesn't have an equal. Morey's statistical analysis model is not advanced enough to include the qualities Rondo brings. I'd bet Morey knows that.
I've been trying to tell you guys all along that there wasn't going to be a huge trade. The Rockets are already contenders, you don't risk blowing that up.
Here is the thing, we're not winning anything this year, next year or ever if we don't get solid contribution from our other players. Casspi and Garcia have to step up and hit shots for us. That is why they are here. If they can hit the 3 more consistently then we will be tougher to beat with Parsons here or Rondo.
Why? Maybe for once we have a decent enough team that we don't need any major trades at the deadline. It's looking like at this point, Morey waited to long to move Asik and no one wants to take on the remaining salary on his deal(his pouting didn't help either). And since he doesn't want to give up Parsons, Rondo is off the table which also means Lin isn't going anywhere. This is the Rockets' roster(once you sub Hamilton for Brooks) heading into the postseason. Let's see what they can do.
