you can always use the pics in trades, if there isn't a player that worth investing in the secound round.
One second round pick might not be that important, but if you start getting four or five in the same draft, you have yourself something. Let's say you have five of them. Going to pick a random draft year. Let's go 2008. You got: Pekovic Deandre Jordan Mario Chalmers Omer Asik Mbah a Moute Goran Dragic when you have five picks in the 2nd, chances are, if you know what you're doing in the draft, you come up with at least one of those guys, if not two.

Problem is that most teams don't have 5 open roster spots and would need to figure out quickly in training camp who to keep and who to jettison.
The issue is you have only 15 roster spots and if you are trying to win a title, you are not carrying 4 or 5 rookies, let along 2nd rounders, on your roster.
