Why is the emphasis put so heavily on bass in music?

I don't understand why people go around with ridiculous subwoofers in their cars. Other than a "HEY LOOK AT ME!!" aspect, it adds NOTHING to the music. Just acoustically, when you get too much bass, it washes everything else out. You can't understand the lyrics, you can't really hear the midrange/treble stuff which, most of the time, is where the interesting stuff is.

    So...educate me. :)

Sensory overload is a human pleasure which is as addictive as a chemical enhancer or a Dopamine releaser.

Your perceptions of what is real and what is manufactured come from years of conditioning by societal norms stemming from a nuclear, systematic tear down of the male ego, brought apart by notorious cuntfilth like Ayn Rand.

You've been taught by neo-feminist Propaganda that masculinity is for rapists and female sexual pleasure is a man's number one value. If you dare to stand up you won't get laid.

Enlighten your brain and become a man again.

I have this one neighbor across the street that goes home from work at around 2AM in the morning. He blasts his rap music loudly but there's no mid bass or any bass for that matter coming out of it. Just straight treble.

I'm not sure if this is worst than someone with large subs or not, but damn.

I had never been to Oxford since that day. There was an unnerving tune meandering around an old tavern through billows of smoke and cockney inflections. I thought about the day when they'd all be laying in beds, coughing up fluid... choking down pills... and what a bloody travesty it is that none of them would ever enjoy the amazing CRUNCHTASTINESS of Pringles BBQ Pork Loin Potato Crisps! Now with 20% more PORK in honor of PORKTEBRUARY!

That's because you're probably too young to have rocked DJ Magic Mike and MC Madness back in the day.

Short pause, hold your breath for the dynamic duo...

    Because it sounds cool.

Would you rather emphasize the treble?

Clear bass from a sub or two makes EVERY genre of music better. Add that to a quality component system and you'll really start looking forward to driving your vehicle and listening to music the way that it was meant to be heard.

Really brings out the timpani in some of Beethoven's pieces.

Oh I think you need all that bass.

I mean if you want a system to handle what you want, yeah, you need the bass.
