That's pretty creepy. You haven't even started the job yet. Your boss sounds like a real winner there. Clearly knows the boundaries between professional and personal relationship. You will have to follow up and let us know what kind of ball-buster your boss is once you start and get in the flow of things. :)

My friend first thought the guy interviewing him was joking. When he hesitated, the interviewer said if you don't want to do this he said there are over 300 applicants for the job who would easily give up the info. I've asked around people at other investment firms and apparently it is a common thing in the NYC area. Especially folks in smaller boutique hedge funds where team culture is heavily emphasized. The management wants to make sure the potential employee represents the company well in every regard at work and home.

I kind of felt bad initially when my friend told me this since I was the one who got him the interview. He eventually changed the password, but I think the management went thoroughly through his account and all messages. I guess it's some form of invasive background check.

    Don't accept it, and don't e-mail a reason.

But, sign up for Linkedin, and add him to that. He'll get the message. Linkedin is for bosses, clients and coworkers; facebook is not.

I added my boss and I got drunk. The rest was history.

Had an old co-worker tell me that he didn't add anyone he worked with to Facebook. Best advice I was given. I have yet to add a co-worker to my Facebook since the last time I worked with him 4 yeas ago.

Just put him on the restricted list.

This pretty medical student that works for me added me on Facebook...but then I can see that I am apparently on her restricted list. Grr. That's teasing.

This. I blocked everyone at work who is on FB. No need to have them on there.

You trust a bunch of strangers on Clutchfans more than the person you work with?

This thread kind of makes me wonder if there are employers out there who won't hire you if you don't have a Facebook account. Oh...we're all on Facebook here but you don't even have an account. CYA!

You talkin' to me? If so, I believe I have one CF member on my FB, that's it. Also, no...I do not trust the people I work with. A bunch of gossip mongers who love to pry into others lives and then talk about it, which in some weird way makes them feel good about their lives I guess. I try to keep away from it.
