Sources: Rockets have eyes on Rondo

My thoughts are that if Morey really wanted Rondo (I believe he does), he would have to part with a very desirable (no homo, lol) asset in Parsons. Parsons has proven that he is capable of playing very high level NBA bb, something that none of this year's lottery picks have, obviously. Moreover, Parsons has proven to be also a leader of men, a must for a rebuilding franchise. Indeed, I often say the heart of the Rockets are in two players: Bev and Parsons.

Like many lottery picks before them, some will turnout to be the real deal. Others will flame out as genuine busts.

The key questions is whether Morey would send Parsons (+ fillers) Boston's way if this is what it took to get Rondo here?

I mixed feelings about this, as we are closing a hole in the wall by getting Rondo, and openning another one by losing Parsons.

You still want a good influx of talent or prospects in case your plan doesn't go as plan. I do agree that we need to capitalize on Howard's prime because who knows how long it will last, 5 years max? But we still have a James Harden, who in 5 years will be in the middle of his prime at 29 years old so trading 1st round picks in those years can be really dangerous to the longevity of this team's championship window. Will Harden stay if all we have on our team is past their prime journey men, low 1st round and 2nd round picks and vet mins? I don't think so.

Look at OKC, even with a contending roster, they still try to keep an eye on the future. Rosters get older, players retire and some key players are going to leave to start their own team like Harden did in 2012. Them being able to get a Lamb, Adams and Jackson is huge for them to make a play for a championship now and in the future as well. As the Spurs do as well; trading Hill for Leonard is a good example as Hill had a huge playoffs for them the postseason before and looked to be Parker's replacement someday.

I don't want to be like the Lakers, Knicks or Nets who traded away all their picks for an all or nothing shot with mediocre over played rosters. I don't think any of those teams have their pick in this upcoming draft. Ouch, considering all three teams are lottery bound.

I want the Rockets to be built like the Spurs organization where you have a contending team that is built to contend for years upon years because of smart dealings and having a eye for the future. And Morey looks to be going that direction as well.

I'm adamantly against trading Parsons. Because if Rondo doesn't work, then it's an unfixable mess. And the window's basically lost.

Morey would be essentially betting the house on one guy, one trade.

But with Parsons, you can wait for a better deal, because a lot of players fit with him, this team as currently constructed.

The Rockets should be willing only to trade Lin, Asik, Motejunas, and draft picks (and maybe Bev in Rondo deal, TJones in Milsap deal). Otherwise, sit tight, roll with this team, and wait for a better deal.

Murray has made some dumb moves especially with the whole Royce White situation but i don't think he'll trade him.

11 assists a game, double double machine on about 20% usage IIRC? That is not ball-dominating; that is just making plays. And, ya know, he is one of the best in the league.

    Post of the day.

    Lowry
    Lee
    Parsons
    Nene
    Gasol

    Bench:
Beverley (assuming Morey still picks him up from Russia)
    Budinger
    Patterson
Hayes/Dalembert (depending on who we sign)
Plug in a shooting guard. Then maybe Canaan/Covington? This is still a pretty good team. A really good team. I don't think Morey would have been fired.

One cannot hold it against Morey that both Nene and Gasol would have a lot of injury problems. At the time of the trade, they were both forces. Three good 3pt shooters surrounding two good low post threats, and a deep bench? Yea, the current situation is better, but if I told you we would have these two top 10 players in the league in 2011, there is no way you believed me.

Bet the "house" on one of the best point guards in the league? Give me that bet every day and twice on Sunday. People forget that Garcia is now healthy and stroking it again. Nowhere near Parson's level in ability, but the difference is much smaller than between Bev/Lin and Rondo.

If you said you were worried because of his recent ACL injury, I would have understood but seriously! WTF?!

If Morey works this deal, it will some combo of Asik to Philly for a pick + Hawes. Lin, Parsons + pick to Celtics for Rondo and Green. Boston doesn't need to make a trade and Ainge will have the leverage. Other option would be Lin + Asik to NYK for Chandler/Shumpert.

If Rockets are going to offer the max to Rondo, will they have any cap space left for Parsons by then? If not, it might be better to just include him in the trade to make sure we get Rondo, even if it means 1.5 years less of Parsons.

I think this will end up being a deadline deal and we just have to wait until they finalize the negotiations.

Rondo doesn't want Toronto or Sacramento which of course helps us. Bucher made a comment that Boston would do Lin, Asik, and an unprotected first rounder which Clutch thinks he meant a lotto pick because we have a first rounder to give.

King Drew said things are moving from fluid to solid for what's that worth.

    lin + asik + 1st rounder

then boston trades asik to philly for a 1st rounder

    Boston's get for Rondo - Lin & 2 1st rounders

    not too shabby.

posted this in the Twitter thread as well. Interesting that CP is out to dinner with an agent at Relativity as well as his friend who apparently works at Relativity as well. I really hope he isn't discussing trade possibilities.

Boston will need Parsons included in any deal with us for Rondo.

Parsons seems oblivious to what is happening. Maybe Morey (or his daughter) has told him not to worry about being traded.

I am pretty sure its because they are probably based out in LA so thats why he is out with them - the Rockets are in LA just 3-4 times a year and considering at least this time around its an "extended" trip in that they were here for a full 2 days before the game - its probably his agent if anything wanting to show that his client means a lot to time -- I wouldnt really worry about that
