If a team is trading for Rondo now, I don't know why they'd fear the "he won't resign threat." Fisrt, presumably, you go after Rondo because you want him as a key cog of a title contending team very soon. So, you have to have some confidence in your ability of assembling such a team and if you do, Rondo shouldn't leave $ on the table to leave your team. Second, even if he still wants to leave next year, you can always trade him in February and recover your investment.
Rondo (and Love, since they both have current interest) should be dealt in the Summer, not now. That's if I'm BOS and MIN. As for cyberx, I trust the dude. My worry? Damned idiots will say "see! not reliable!" if nothing happens. Working the phones/having interest is basically THE main here, not a trade being DONE.
The same reason kings backed out, they didn't want to give up young talent and picks if rondo is not going to be with them long term, they know they are not contenders this year or next. & it's probably more to it, like rondo just doesn't want to go there PERIOD Morey needs to get Howard to give a rondo call tell him he wants to come, then rondo needs to force it since Danny is already dangling him
This post is spot on. We shouldn't even be worrying about whether or not we can lock Rondo up long-term. He guarantees us a contending shot for two years, or one year with a return on investment. Either way, you've got to pull the trigger.
Yup. Before Dwight was traded to LA, Morey was told Dwight wouldn't resign if traded to Houston. Morey was still willing to roll the dice for a SuperStar. And if Rondo leaves? You have cap space.
translation to all this he won't resign = rondo just rather stay in boston now & next year unless he's going to a contender.
Not arguing against trading for Rondo, but it's a real concern because if he re-signs he's probably gonna want 4 years at max in summer of 2015. Can the Rockets afford that? If you're the Rockets, you'd want him over these 3 or 4 seasons Dwight is around. Not necessarily further out, but these 2 years and for him to sign another 2 years. And what about Parsons, then? That's probably the logic of trading Parsons - if they get Rondo, they can't afford to re-sign Parsons.
