If this trade happens, but we give up CP25, I would feel a bit empty on the inside. Not doubting Rondo's abilities at all (as a matter of fact, I think he's a top 3 PG in this league), but it would reinforce the idea that loyalty is not a thing in the NBA and it's all about business. Chandler Parsons is a top-5 small forward in this league. I would rather keep him and let him hit RFA. I don't think you need to pay him more than $10M/year. He has a bunch of side deals (endorsements, modeling, etc.) anyway. Plus, he's a great fit with everyone else in Houston. Would trade Asik, TJ + our 1st in a heartbeat for Rondo though.
I don't think that's a critical issue here. I'm pretty sure Morey would trade Asik/Lin and whatever to get Melo here for a stretch run and then let the off season play out however. I'm pretty sure he'd feel the same way about Rondo. Let it play out. If Rondo doesn't want to be here after 2014-15 then we've got cap space to go get another 3rd star.

The thing about Parsons is he represents the home town guy. Drafted by the Rockets, wins a ring with the Rockets, retires a Rocket. Would hate to give him up.
That was quite clever. Nevertheless, good point though, but can't rep you, gotta spread. A lot of people have a "what have you done for me now?" type view. Rondo was elite in the playoffs for years in Boston; there is no other way to put it.
Things depend in part on how much Morey values his job, versus his stated goal of maximizing probablity of winning a championship. Because if he rolls the dice on Parsons-for-Rondo and the latter doesn't fit (either with McHale or the players), gets injured, doesn't re-sign, or simply doesn't win, then these 3 years may be down the drain. A lot of teams have crippled themselves for the foreseeable in such ways. Trading Parsons would be betting the house in that sense. Right now, Morey is sitting pretty. He can let this team gel, and opportunistically pick up the missing piece or two for the next two seasons. And the probability of winning at least one championship is quite good. In terms of assets, he has Asik to trade, plenty of draft picks, so there is no reason to be hasty or desperate, or take on excessive risk. Asik's trade value will go up when the season ends, because then teams are re-building rosters, and the market becomes more liquid. If he doesn't get a favorable deal, I think he will sit tight for the time being. Because the right deal will almost certainly come along between now and the start of the 2014-2015. And it won't require Parsons.
Interesting point brought up by cyberX....CP's back issues could be worrying Houston. Back spasms are ALWAYS something to worry about. That being said...if Morey can get Rondo, while keeping Chandler, he's going to get a parade.

The way it's looking, Morey is doing everything possible to avoid having to deal him away. Hopefully we can, but if not, hey you gotta do what ya gotta do.
I can't see him giving up Parsons.. even for Rondo. That's just me. Seeing as out backups arent really that good.
