    Haha wow, that's awful.

Just accept and restrict their access as others have said.

Just ignore the invite. If you don't decline it, they can't try again - and they don't know you turned them down. It just sits in limbo. I have like 20 people in my pending request box. I don't want them trying again, and I don't want to explain why I said no to their requests.

Don't do it. Just tell him you don't really use it, other than to log in and see things your out-of-town family has posted.

If you add him and then restrict him, he'll be curious as to why you need to restrict him and that sets you up for another possible awkward situation, if he asks why. Plus, once he's on your list, even with restrictions, you risk him seeing some information through some kind of loophole. You could comment on a friend's public post/picture. There's too much going on in FB to be sure he's completely restricted.

add them then repeatedly check-in when you go to work. Just say I am with "xxxx" (whoever was requesting you) in the break room at work. Do this every day and they will try to unfriend you.

This is a good point, better to just keep it private. If not having access to your friend's FB profile is a deal breaker then so be it. Tough to swallow when unemployed and you need a job, but that's prob not an organization that you'd like to work for anyway.

Declining your boss when you haven't even started at the firm seems pretty stupid to me. Don't think he wants to hear soemthing like "No, I want to seperate friends and business". Your relationship would seem doomed before you even arrived at your new work, not what you want.

    That's just odd.

Like others have suggested, I'd create a new account and add him with that one.

yup. it's so great that you can block people on facebook and then be unsearchable to them. best way to successfully unfriend someone you also never want to talk to again in real life

Since it really is true for me that I started an account and then do nothing with it, I could just accept and not worry about it.
