This pick is OWED to Houston.

2014 second round draft pick from Philadelphia
Philadelphia's 2014 2nd round pick to Houston protected for selections 31-55 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Philadelphia's obligation to Houston will be extinguished) [Houston-Philadelphia, 7/13/2013]

Possibly make this unprotected for 2014?

I would do Hawes + couple of 2nd rounders for Asik

a straight up swap makes a lot of sense. We'd basically be acknowledging that we never got a return on Asik's value, rather we'd merely be converting him into a player that fills another need, and saving Les some $, while providing us additional cap flexibility this offseason. That sounds like a Morey move to me, and not a bad one, but i can't help but wonder what we could have gotten for Omer this offseason if we had been willing to take a little less than what Morey was asking. I guarantee we could have filled a need, while also getting an asset for the future, like a draft pick.

oh well, no need to dwell on something that's done. Just seems like a real waste to essentially lose Asik for nothing but cap flexibility. Then again, welcome to the world of the new CBA, where cap flexibility appears to be half of the equation! ;)

It looks like Morey is trying to meet Ainge's request (2 #1 picks for Rondo)

Trade Asik to Philly for NO's #1 pick and give our #1 pick this yr or next.

Then trade Lin to Mil for Ilyasova and a #2

So, basically Lin, Asik, and a #1 for Ilyasova, Rondo

if hinkie gets a 1st for hawes or turner like he wants thats were the 1st can come from. He still has to get closer to the cap with keeping them. If he can wing a first for hawes he knows he can get even better this summer or next year for asik if he sends him west.

Really surprised Asik to Phoenix hasn't even been rumored to have been discussed. They seem to have everything Houston desires in an Asik deal plus some, and best of all those hoards of picks they have seem to be expendable to a certain extent.

Even if you have to make a WC rival better in the process getting Okafor's expiring and a couple picks, and Phoenix getting what would be the perfect big man for their team would seem to be a no-brainer.

Only explanation is Morey must be extremely adamant about NOT trading within the WC which is why we keep on coming back to the same teams in the East.

I think we could finagle the Pellie's Pick if it meant Rondo. Either T-Bird or Dmo+NYK second rounder. Steep but the price of acquiring another star, its gotta sting.

Morey can't be serious about grabbing the Philly draft pick. Good teams don't need draft picks. Bad teams do need them. What Philly could offer is to take Lin and Asik off Morey's hands in exchange for Young (3 years) and Hawes (expiring). Houston gets essentially all obligations for Asik/backup center extinguished by this offseason so they will have gotten value out of that contract for both years and have no obligation in year 3. They get Young for 3 years, but that's a guy they might like. Philly would get Lin who can immediately slot into the starting PG spot and move MCW to the SG which is more his natural position. They also get a quality big who can play alongside Noel. Both contracts expire at the end of next year. If Houston really wants a replacement for Lin they can take Tony Wroten.

It works from Rox' side (and Philly's) if DM the GM adds Smith and Brewer creating an @$4m TE. (6ers have to pay players on roster or Players Ass'n, after all.)

    This would give us a team of;

    Rondo/Bev
    Harden/Garcia
    Parsons/Casspi
    Ilyasova/Jones
    Howard/D-Mo/Smith

I'd rather just give minutes at C to DMo and Jones instead of wasting them on Hawes.

This is plausible but I think it's a challenge for Philly to give up a pick this year and take on Asik's balloon payment. It seems unrealistic.

I have thought the same and agree.PHX doesnt scare me if we are talking about matchups in the playoffs ,even with Asik, so I would explore this.

MCW is their PG of the future... he isn't a SG at all.

We should just send Asik to the suns, I believe they have multiple first round picks and we can grab okafor who is a huge expiring. We can then ship 2 first rounders and okafor for someone substantial.

A guy who has natural passing ability, can guard the point guards, but has no jump shot whatever has SG as his natural position? Nope, nope nope.

Yeah, it really stings that it has turned out this way but ultimately if we trade Asik we are not going to get a great return.
