Well I think the Rockets are under the cap so they might be able to do a Rondo for just picks trade if they flipped Asik for picks first.
My post was based on the rumored Lin/Asik for Teague/Millsap trade. Obviously the big fish here is Millsap. Lin/Teague is just a swap to satisfy both parties. Millsap playing 36 minutes at PF is better for this team than Asik playing 12 mins at back up C. I still think Teague is better, at best a wash. He takes care off the ball better and besides this season has shot the ball fairly well, plus playoff experience which should count for something. This is a move for this season and win now. Regarding the contract, I think you can flip Teague plus combination of Jones/ DMo for what you're looking for. May be you can throw a Millsap in there too for a Love or LMA. Granted it's a long shot but I like our chances this season with Teague/Millsap as opposed to Lin/ Asik
Makes a lot of sense to me. This would also mean the Celtics wouldn't have to take any significant salaries back. Something like this: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ktuvxwu Celtics In: Pelicans 2014 1st (via PHI), Rockets 1st (year TBD), a young player (Parsons, Beverly, DMO?) Rockets In: Rondo 76ers In: Asik, maybe a pick from Houston
The Knicks are going after Teague apparently, according to ESPN. http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/sto...awks-emerges-new-york-knicks-top-trade-target
rockets in:lin and asik, 1st rounder Sixers in: hawes, Pelicans 1st rounder Celtics: Rondo Rockets get: Rondo , Hawes Sixers get: Asik and maybe another pick from rockets Celtics get: Lin and 2 first round picks..
I think Phillys pick for Asik might be lottery protected for a few years, then eventually become unprotected.
Assist to TO ratio is not really that useful a stat. A guy like Jose Calderon is going to have an extremely high assist to to ratio because he doesn't really drive deep into the paint too often or look to score layups or draw fouls off the dribble. He makes a lot of relatively safe passes and often scores off jumpers. Compare this to a guys like Lin who does drive at the basket frequently and look for layups and contact. The paint is crowded, people are swiping at the ball, sometimes they succeed, sometimes fouls don't get called, the passes he tries to make in the interior are also more liable to be tipped. The Assist to TO number really just tells you two guys don't play the same style or have the same role on their teams rather than one being a better passer than the other or even has better ball security than the other.
@celtics: The Celtics will be without Avery Bradley and Vitor Faverani for their West Coast trip that begins tomorrow night in Phoenix. So rondo is playing
I hate clutchfans "please spread some more rep before given it to this user" Yung-T is my breh I only want to rep him, this is so gold
We're not getting Rondo. I don't know who's putting this out there. But we do not have chance in hell in getting him with just Asik and a draft pick. I guess it keeps ppl dreaming, but we are not getting this guy
yeah, but what incentive does Philly have to give the Rockets a 1st rounder? They're in full rebuild mode and they're not rebuilding around Asik. The article mentions the fact that Philly is in the business of acquiring 1st rounders, not divesting. To me, that's the one place where the logic fails. I just don't see what's in it for philly.
Sam Hinke has studied under DMs tutelage. HE knows the value of a 1st round pick while attempting to build a team... so then i ask 1) why would he give up one of those first round picks 2) why would he do it when he is expecting noel next season... i doubt he wants a logjam at the 5. Cyberx is so deep in the circles that he is reporting attmepts by our front office. he isnt saying that it will happen... thanks for keeping the past 24 hrs interesting cyberx... I love the trade deadline bc daryl morey is my GM.
if you've been reading the thread it's not just asik and a 1st round pick we would trade asik to get a pick and likely trade those 2 first round picks + (maybe lin/jones) for rondo
No, it's still an awful idea, but I was pointing out that they'd have the money to do it in that scenario.
