Lin will not re-sign with Houston. He is a starting PG and many teams around the league appreciate what he can do on the floor and know that he is a good teammate and a good character guy. Without the poison pill that Morey threw in, his contract is very manageable under the current CBA and he will be a good bargain..a player entering his prime at a reasonable price. If Morey wants salary flexibility for 2014-15 or can leverage Lin's performance this year to make some moves to get a big name player like Rondo then moving Lin might make sense. Moving Asik is about writing off a loss. They are getting no value out of him and will not for the remainder of his contract term.

Yea, I don't understand people saying how the poison pill is backfiring on Morey, maybe, if he had the intention to move Lin upon signing him, but he knew what he was doing/getting himself into when he pried Lin away from NY. In that case we had a bargain for Lin the first 2 years, and it evens out on the 3rd year payment. I still see him as an asset to the team, despite his 8.3 mil cap hit, we'd have a pretty large hole to fill if we trade him.

I definitely wouldn't want to go to war with Casspi/Garcia as our primary playmaker/shot creator on the 2nd unit (although I guess that role would be filled by AB who might not be too bad an option albeit a defensive sieve)

The reality is probably that the Rockets are trying to shop Lin but no team is willing to take on his bloated back loaded contract. There are 20 plus teams with a point guard better than Lin or a comparable one being paid less.

    Exactly!
McHale tried to sell us a story about having "two starting point guards" while the truth is that Lin hasn't fit into the Rockets' long term plans. So during the off season they were already planning to force Beverley into the role of a starting point guard whereas they were always looking for an opportunity to trade Lin.

Let me simplify things for you a little bit. The Rockets are always looking for an oppertunity to improve the team. Regardless of the name on the back of the Jersey, if the Rockets can improve the team by trading him they will trade him. Jeremy Lin is no exception.

This. I would honestly not be surprised to hear that anybody has been traded, outside of Harden/Howard/Parsons. Disappointed, but not at all surprised.

Could a Lin trade this summer net the Rockets a return similar to what the Thunder got for Harden?

    Both high scoring sixth men

First, don't talk to me as if I were your r****ded mom. Second, don't get that **** twisted. I think you really know what my point is. By highlighting a single fragment of my comment while ignoring the context and stating the obvious doesn't make you a second Sokrates.

Hmmm. Will there be any team willing to sign Lin a max contract after they get him?

Well, I don't know... the example I always used was Lowry for Lin with sweetener in there (like a first round pick)... but sounds like Lowry is off the block. Toronto is the type of market that could have interest in Lin, in my opinion.

Definitely not what I'm saying... I don't think it has anything to do with Lin's next contract. I think if the Rockets get a good offer, then they'll do it... I just don't know if that would be out there, and it's always smart to gather intel on who is interested and who isn't.

Lin's a tough one -- he's likely got negative trade value (meaning you may have to take back more money than he's owed), but he also fills a couple roles for the Rockets as well -- 6th Man spark as well as starter insurance for both guard spots. They'd probably like to be free of that $15 million coming up, but would need to fill a spot that I'm not 100% sure Aaron Brooks alone does.

    Make way for the Canaan!

If Lin can be traded for more money it's not necessarily a bad deal. For instance Ilyasova. $7.9 million per season. His contract does go into 2015. But if he comes here and plays well than all of a sudden that $7.9 million turns into a trade-able commodity. Very much more enticing at the 2015 trade deadline in a bailout deal for Love (or possibly LaMarcus) along with other assets, than Lin would be.

highly doubt any team is going to do rockets a favor by taking on that $15mil when it was the rockets that BENEFITED from this contract for the past two years by paying $5mil for $8mil of production. you created this funky contract and benefited from it the past two years - now it's time to pay the piper.

If he starts playing like Dragic/Lowry, we are going to get CF in an uproar.
