No, it is a way to track you.

I cannot think of any positive that could happen by accepting it.

Just tell him you don't do Facebook.

    Your boss sounds weird.

Can't really say you don't do facebook if you have a facebook account. That's pretty weird, in itself.

But yeah, I wouldn't accept it. Tell your boss that you use facebook to keep up with family only.

I would just ignore it. If he eventually says something to you about it just tell him you don't really get on facebook. That said definitely do NOT accept his invite. Need to keep business and personal apart.

Just use the ol' "I started an account a few years ago but I don't keep up with it" excuse. I use that one all the time for awkward friend requests.

Do what I do with coworkers, accept and add them to your restricted list, that way the only thing they can see is things you made public. If you don’t like posting things for the public eyes just take random pictures and make them public.

This. You can restrict almost everything on there so all they see is your smiling face.

This is better than the one instance when my friend was asked for the login password for his FB account by his employer. He was fresh out of college and desperate for a job so he complied. He still has the job luckily.

Block him and tell him you deactivated. Block everyone on your team too bc he sounds like a FB stalker and would ask them to confirm. LOL

Ha, this is actually a trending topic in the HR world right now. My advice to you would be like another poster suggested, accept but put him on your restricted list. My advice to the manager would be to cut the creeper act. The potential damage done by decling worker morale due to everyone constantly looking over thier shoulder, a possible hit to the company's reputation, or a lawsuit is not worth the limited benefit of a little bit of extra info gained from a canidate's profile.

    Reason #24576 that I don't do facebook.

I don't think you can decline your boss, though.

Accept it and then limit him to seeing your profile pic only. No need for the employer to see your past posts, wall posts and pics or status changes. Or you can just add him on LinkedIn and say fb is for friends only.

An HR employee that actually would care about employee morale? Seems to be a rare breed from my experience...
