67 pages in so obviously I'm a little late to the action... All along, I've been a huge proponent of trading for Rondo. He's tough, battle-tested, would help us cut down our near league high in team turnovers, plays good defense and is better offensively than people give him credit for. He would bolster us tremendously when healthy and fits the bill as this mythical third-star-without-full-max-contract player that DM seems to covet. That said, I would NOT sacrifice Parsons for him. Rondo has looked kind of shaky since returning and his contract is up after next year. Keeping those two factors in mind, I cannot endorse any trade involving Parsons. Now, 2014 first rounder + Lin + sweeteners, that's a different story. Boston probably wouldn't do that, but that's the sort of package I'd be interested in.
Well said, my friend. I'm tired of hearing so much nonsensical bashing. I don't like Rondo, but I think he'd bring a lot to this team for many of the reasons you said.
Giving up Parsons for Rondo is smart short-term gain but will hurt us longer term. The celtics are not in a great bargaining position - they are a rebuilding team looking to unload him before next year when his value will drop greatly. Man, it just sounds like giving up Parsons - such a great player. Parsons is such a key cog, he's our best 3 point shooter. We would have to become a completely different team.
You noticed his shakiness too? Did you check out the Dallas game yet? Or his first game back against the Lakers? He looked much stronger and less timid in those two games. He was somewhat effective against San Antonio, but moved like Magic Johnson. Stiff knees, etc, but moving the ball just out of the reach of anyone trying to ballhawk it.
This has been my contention all along that the Celts were going to have a difficult time getting more than Asik/Lin/picks for Rondo. It appears on the surface that Sacramento offered them a nice package but pulled it back because Rondo wouldn't re-sign there. I think the actual trade market for Rondo is quite limited. And like you said, it's going to get even more limited if Ainge keeps him until the off season and he's only got one year left on his contract.
Right now we can look at contenders with a hole at point guard. Rockets and Knicks are two off the head
Exactly, tired of seeing members screaming he can't shoot, thinking that if we got him he'd just defer to Harden and become a strict spot shooter. Of course that would be terrible, but thats obviously not going to happen.
@Thedocrocket: Perfect sense=Teague/Millsap 4 Lin/Asik? Can u Brew Linsanity in Midwest? I'd be SoVa reaking happy! Does 'what-a-haul-Gasol' bring rings?
Really hard to see the Celts taking both Lin and Asik. That's 30$ in salary that ownership has to pay next year, would make a dent on their bottom line
I think it's millsap/teague for Asik/lin Not sure though waiting on further investigating Spoiler [just kidding breh]
I include the knicks and maybe the Lakers because they are the knicks and lakers... Okay if you take the Knicks out who else have as much of a pressing need for a point guard?
How would this hurt the team in the long run? Unless projections (and by that I mean Morey's projections) say that Parsons will be an all-star player there's no reason to think getting Rondo won't open up other options in the future. If this gamble doesn't pay off and we don't sign Rondo so an extension before his contract is up, we probably freed up enough room to get a player like Kevin Love in the summer of 2014. That summer of 2014 is crucial because if Morey doesn't think Parsons is going to be a legit all-star, why not trade for an actual all-star at a position they definitely need (e.g. Rondo) and roll the dice to see what happens? If Rondo doesn't pan out, the Rockets can simply let him walk or trade him next season. If Rondo does pan out, however, you just re-sign him to an extension thereby locking in 3 all-star talent. If Parsons is to be dealt Morey has combed over all the possibilities that Rondo might not pay off and I'm sure he sees over the horizon how this could play into what he/Rockets want to do in the summer of 2014 or 2015.
Sounds like three trades: millsap/Teague for Lin/Asik. Lin for ilyasova straight up or something for Gasol
