Complete different players. In Parsons' rookie season, maybe yes. But now that he contributes more on offense, his defense has regressed a lot. Defense don't earn you big bucks I guess. And that seems what Parsons has his eyes on for his next contract.
Yup, you sure can overpay with bird rights for a guy like Parsons and lose your flexibility because no one wants an overpaid player on their roster if you should happen to need to trade him. Morey hasn't overpaid anyone other than Royce White. He's shrewd and there is nothing shrewd about holding onto Parsons. Rondo's game does not hinge on athleticism. He's not Westbrook. He's a whole lot more like Magic than Westbrook. Dude is smart. Hell, look at the "fights" he's been in. He never throws a punch so the NBA hasn't really come down hard on him, but he gets what he needs out of it: a deflated opponent. His passing ability and shot creativity is off the charts. He can get a ball to his players in angles no one else in the NBA is using these days. He's legit. Parsons is not the best shooter in the NBA. He's not the best defender. He only brings one unique attribute to the table, chemistry. I'm just not sure chemistry and liking each other wins big games. This team is building itself into a squad that can win the biggest big game against the greatest teams today offers. I like Parsons, but Rondo gives you new weapons on offense. Weapons you can use down the stretch. In big games. In the big moments. Those moments that Parsons doesn't have the tools for. He used to have them on the defensive end, but that seems to have disappeared as his offense improved. Dude is looking to get paid. Not win.
That depends on how you think of him. If you think he's just a good contract, then fine, but if you think he's legitimately a good young player, then that take is ridiculous. Also, the Rockets won't have flexibility no matter what unless they are planning on trading for expiring contracts, picking up Rondo wouldn't leave them with flexibility any more than paying Parsons would. Yes, it really does No, he's Rondo Sure, except nowhere near as tall or big as Magic and he can't shoot anywhere near as well. He's like a miniature, far less talented version of Magic I gotta admit, when I think of "smart" basketball players, I think of those who get into a lot of fights. Being surrounded by 3 future HOFers for most of his career helped "deflate" opponents as well. Awesome, he's a great passer. If only that's what the Rockets really needed. Compared to Rondo, he's the best shooter in NBA history. No, he gives you a guy who has to constantly dominate the ball to have any value on offense whatsoever which limits what you can do offensively.
I happen to think Rondo would be a guy both Harden and Howard will allow to dominate the ball... simply because he has won a Chip you basically need to trade anyone not named H and H for him... if he was 100% it would be a no brainer...
Not sure if some of these guys are credible on twitter but some of them are saying Rondo might be heading to the Raptors
I've only watched basketball for a little over 20 years so I might be oblivious to the notion that a pure point guard dominating the ball is....a bad thing? Are we requiring that our point guard score 18-20 points a night as well as finding his teammates on a consistent basis? If that's the criteria to be a "perfect fit" then I need to ask how many point guards fit that mold and how many of them play with a Top 5 or even Top 10 shooting guard? Then I'd like to ask how many of those point guards also play with a center that can finish around the rim like Dwight Howard? Saying Rajon Rondo is a bad fit because he dominates the ball is like saying you don't want the Texans to draft a QB that throws too much....it's a point guard's job to have a ball the majority of the time because they're facilitating and running the offense. I am fully aware of Rondo's shortcomings as an offensive player. He doesn't shoot free throws at a respectable rate, defenses sag off of him and his 3 point shot is suspect. I am also fully aware of the things he CAN bring to this team like above average defense (e.g. better than Beverly/Lin/Brooks), elite passing (e.g. better than Beverly/Lin/Brooks) and a toughness/assholeness/edge that no one on this team has. Just because he can't chuck the 3-ball like Beverly or Lin or Brooks can doesn't mean he's automatically a "bad fit". Demanding/requiring that he runs through screens or cuts is ludicrous because that's a scorers job and not a point guard's job. There's a reason why Morey wants Rondo because he doesn't stop at "Is this guy a bad fit?" and rather answer the question "Can this guy put my team over the top?". I'm not a fan of sending Parsons out to get Rondo back but it is Morey who got this team to where it is right now and it will be Morey, again, who will try to do whatever he thinks is best for the team to get closer to a championship. Some people on this board were grabbing their testicles in protest when we sent out "too much" to OKC for Harden. Some on here wanted to denounce their fandom because signing Howard would mean we can't play Asik. Now people don't want to bring Rajon Rondo on board because he's not a "good fit" because he, a pure point guard, "don't run cuts or get open for shots"? If that's the case, then I say bring on Rondo and wait for the championship parade.
I'm not going to repeat myself. You are repeating arguments other people have already put forth, so without further ado, I present to you a page worth reading. Just like all the pages on here are worth reading: Page 55, voila: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=250906&page=55 Say something new. Please. I beg you. Please. Even if it's contradictory to what I think, I crave original thought. Or memory or have you even taken the time to watch him play a game post injury? I have.
Can you stop talking about Rondo ? please ? Let's take him first and then we can debate whether it was right or wrong.
BobbyTheAverage, This is what great posting looks like. He even said he doesn't like Parsons/Rondo swap, but it's still really great stuff! BTA, show this greatness your name speaks of! I'm eagerly waiting.
