Clowney and Bridgewater are a lot closer than you think. If Bridgewater was 6'4 and 230 lbs they would be neck and neck
Lmao, Teddy reminds you of Thad Lewis? That's golden. I bet you would take Thad Lewis as your QB instead of Teddy even while saying that. Might as well just keep Keenum back there if that's the case. Thad Lewis beat the Dolphins (really the Dolphins) twice and you can't even say he beat them. Unless you consider 21/32 202 yds. and 1 INT the first meeting and 15/25 193 yds. and 1 INT all worldly. Out of those handful of QBs that were found in the later rounds in this so called trend you have upteen hundred that are total busts. Its only becoming a trend because teams with already great defenses found playoff success with these young talented guys. For every Colin Kaepernick there are three Colt McCoy, Kevin O'Connell, and chad Hennes. The odds are against most that wait that long, when they have a chance at an extremely talented guy at the top of the draft.
All this don't reach for a QB and you can get a good QB in the later rounds is crazy talk. Once you get out of the first round your odds decrease exponentially. In fact the best odds to find an elite QB are first pick overall. After that the odds drop and begin to plummet after the first round. That doesn't mean you draft a QB for the sake of drafting a QB. I get that point. But if you need a QB and there is an elite QB available it's a no brainer. What makes that argument even more in favor of drafting a QB first is that and elite QB increases your chances for winning more than any other elite player at any position. So with the Texans needing a QB more than any other need on this team the only real discussion is their a QB in this draft worthy of the first overall pick. Teddy Bridgewater has everything you want in an elite QB. If he comes in at 6'2" 215 running a 4.6 than there is nothing to debate IMO. Everyone talks about Andrew Luck and how he was elite QB. And I do not argue he was so polished as a college QB. But while TB was not as polished he has better footwork is quicker and even a little more accurate on passes under 30 yards. Yes Andrew Luck was like a machine out there but you can see his weakness in reseting his feet quick enough under pressure. He still has that same problem in the pros. Not Teddy. He's as quick as light. You can't teach that. No one has he just was born with it. Just like manziel's elusiveness, it's a God given talent. The difference between Bridgewater's quick feet and Manziels quickness is Teddy almost never takes his eyes off downfield and Manziel almost never keeps them downfield when both are on the move. Teddy never loses focus and that is special. He is as fearless as they come in the pocket. The combine is coming up and while all the top QB's will step out of the passing drills, Teddy Bridgewater uncharecteristically for top QB prospect will throw. He has this bring it on, I'm up for all challenges, mentality. He has more upside han Andrew Luck IMO. Yeah some will think that's a ridiculous statement. But that's no different than anyone who says he is not a top ten pick is ridiculous.
OMR hit the nail on the head. 1. Bridgewater is Drew Brees like in his ability to throw his receivers in space That is the number one trait on NFL success. That also indicates the qb has intricate and complete understanding of his own offense and the defense he is against. A big sign of his mental game as well. 2. Footwork is the best I have seen in the college game 3. I would love if he threw at the combine, shows a very gutsy mentality. I won't be surprised if he separates himself from the back this weekend Probably wants to show off his arm strength too
1. More accurate under 30 yards 2. His arm strength could be just as good or better in a few years time
Ohhhhhhh, so now Seattle's and San Francisco defense gets the credit... Or does it..??? Can't tell with you guys. Because if Teddy is considered a "Russell Wilson" type quarterback but we don't have a "Seattle" type defense _ what da heck is the sense of drafting a "Russell Wilson" type with the 1st overall pick....??? Because now you are giving credit to the defense. It's also interesting how you're quick to point out Thad's numbers but ignore Russell's numbers in the 1st two games of the playoffs. Anyway, my opinion of Thad and Teddy is irrelevant so no need for you to feel insulted (you should read their scouting reports though)... But as you stated EJ Manual was projected as a 2nd - 3rd pick and Buffalo drafted him in the 1st and they may have made a mistake. And the Eagles made it to the playoffs with Foles by the way. Cincinnati has been making it to the playoffs with Dalton. The Jets went 8-8 with Geno. Mike Glennon looked good as a first time starter. Including Kaepernick and Russell that's 6 quarterbacks starting in the NFL that were not drafted in the 1st round in the past 3 (or 4) years... And Cousins and Osweiler could probably be good starters as well and Mallet may be soon to get an opportunity himself... On the flip side besides Cam, Luck, and RG3 _ look at the other QBs drafted in the 1st round in the past 3 (or 4) years compared to the QBs drafted outside the 1st round. So yes it qualifies as a trend.
I do and I have probably watched more of him and Andrew Luck than most of the scouts. Just watch their too last games and you'll see what I'm talking about. That Fiesta Bowl was one of Lucks best games and he threw almost flawless but you can see his footwork problems even then. The same problems he had in the playoffs throwing 5 ints. Bridgewater at this stage makes more mental mistakes no doubt. But Bridgewater is a smart kid and his decision making is very good already albeit not on Luck's level. But what's special is Bridgewater doesn't have those footwork problems. That's just a natural gift that Luck is missing. Bridgewater is a hard worker and his decision making will only improve. After 2 years in the pros Luck's footwork problems don't look like they will improve much. And that's just one area Bridgewater has the edge. Bridgewater has a better change of pass on his passes. He can throw a bullet in a tight window but he can also take something off it to make it easier to catch. He has like 3 or 4 different speeds. He also throws less "kill my teammate" passes (for lack of a better word. He usually places the ball so his teammates can do something with it and rarely places it where they get clobbered immediately after they catch it. The Texans receivers will love him for this. These are little things that most don't notice but if you watch a lot of video and rewatch it you notice this stuff. And for the record I'm not saying Luck isn't good at that too just Bridgewater has the edge in these areas now and he is younger. No question Bridgewater has many flaws. But most of that is fixable and you can't say as much for Luck especially after 2 years in the pros and he is still making some of the same mistakes. Personally I think a lot you guys and the scouts out there over rate Luck. He was one of the most polished QB's coming out of college in a while. Partly because of his pedigree, opportunity and partly because of his work ethic and talent. He was flawless in what he did in college and more NFL ready to step right in. But he hasn't improved that much in 2 years. IMO Bridgewater will pass him up once he gets to the pros. Maybe quickly.
No offense, but scouts know what to watch for when watching film... and Bridgewater is nowhere NEAR as smart as Andrew Luck. Not even close. Luck was the valedictorian at Stratford High and did well at Stanford. Bridgewater isn't even close to being in that same league.
You guys? Who tf is you guys? You can look thru any of my posts, I have yet to discredit any NFL defense to tout up a player nor have I discredited any other prospect in an attempt to glorify what Teddy has or hasn't done. That's between you and the other posters so keep me out of that mess. Thad's numbers were thru the regular season, not the playoffs against elite competition, next argument. You're right, your opinion of Thad and Teddy is irrelevant cause there is no correlation between the two. They may have made a mistake by drafting Manuel so early, but he could get healthy this next season and progress into what they envisioned him to be. Because as you stated he did miss 6 games this past season, major setback for a QB that is learning on the fly. But that's not on us that's on him. Okay, that's 6 starters, OUT OF 32!!! Come on you can't tell me that's the norm if there's not even 1/4 of the league that have been selected out of the first round. I guarantee you the percentages of you acquiring one of those types of QBs is far less likelier than you make it seem. Just because you have crappy teams that reach for QBs like Jacksonville, Cleveland, Tennessee, and Minnesota doesn't mean EVERYONE is going to draft a worthless QB in the first round. Since you mention Cam his draft was widely considered as an open competition for the #1 overall pick. People like Dareus, Miller, and Fairley were projected to go at the top spot to Carolina. Until the combine started and people finally realized there was more to Cam than just flash and flare. There's no reason to think that this draft (even though you guys' favorite network ESPN are projecting differently) could have the same outcome. As I've been saying, every draft and every player is different. Just because the last 4 years there has been a top QB picked up in the 3rd round doesn't mean this year the same will happen. And if it does there's definitely no guarantee that the guy will be selected by your team.
Well if Bridgewater goes to the Jags and the Texans take Clowney, I'll feel bad for Bridgewater because his career will probably be short and uneventful.
Funny I was thinking that if the Texans take Bridgewater and the Jags take Clowney, I'd feel bad for Clowney because his career will probably be short and uneventful as well. Ask guys like Derrick Harvey and Tyson Alulalu (or some ****).
being smart off the field is different than being smart on the field. As usual you don't recognize that. Luck makes more dumb throws than most. Jeremy Lin makes stupid plays a lot of the times.
No he played in the Pac 12, against terrifying defenses such as Oregon's, Arizona's, Utah's, Washington U and State's, along with a bunch of other fearsome defenses. Please.
nope I want Clowney + a game manager. Seattle model. Defense #1, big time running game, game manager.
