Hopefully we can trade Beverley (he might even be in the trade now that I think about it) or Brooks for a defensive wing who can knock down the corner 3 ball.

I was speaking of Ilyasova's trade value. Our opinions and how well he'd fit this team is not relevant to the discussion of his trade value. You can be 100% correct in your assessment of him, and I would more or less agree with you. In fact, in the offseason I wanted Ilyasova over Anderson myself.

But in the end his trade value is utter, utter garbage at this point. He is a toxic contract that the Bucks need to add assets to get rid of. If the Bucks just tell every single GM to give them nothing for Ilyasova, most would laugh in their faces.

If the Rockets trade either Asik or Lin for him, I'd expect an asset or a pick back. For Asik, a decent 1st rounder will do. For Lin, the Bucks own 2nd round pick if they still have it.

I don't think Beverley is that valuable from an asset standpoint. Sure, he's playing great D, but rarely do you see PGs who don't get over 15ppg and 7apg to be valuable asset.
I think it's the best to stick with Beverley because he is in fact undervalued.

my take after scrolling 53 pages...

the kings being out of the rondo sweepstakes is HUGE! the fact that rondo has some say is also huge. if he didn't want to commit to kings, he will say the same for the raptors. that leaves the lakers and rockets. pretty sure we have more to offer.

doc says we need a 3rd team. ainge probably doesn't want to take back the contracts of either asik/lin. jones/bev/1st/nyk2nd is probably enough to get it done but we need a 3rd team to make the salaries work. asik to that team, better contract to the celtics with the above package most likely.

my prediction is that we are able to make the best offer to the celtics and morey finds someone to take asik to make the salaries work. something like this:

    ATL: Asik
BOS: jones, L.Williams (cap fodder), Brand (expiring), bev, hawks first, rockets first
    HOU: rondo

the hawks can use asik for a playoff run. their pick won't have a chance at the lotto so they can part with it for omer. brand's $4M expiring will be appealing to ainge. williams $5M/2yrs will have to be added to make the salaries work, but its a friendly contract that ainge may not be apposed to since he's getting 2 firsts, jones and bev. after all, he did take wallace's horrible contract in order to get the picks from the nets.

we would need a PF again though... makes sense to want to go after illyasova as doc suggested. while we are talking to the bucks, we have also been linked to neal rumors this season. something like this could work out:

MIL: lin, brewer (get it milwaukee? brewer?)
    HOU: illyasova, neal

this saves the bucks some money and gets rid of two players who want out. final roster:

    dwight-dmo-smith
    illyasova-casspi
    parsons-garcia-covington
    harden-neal
    rondo-brooks-canaan

If Morey traded Parsons for Rondo I'd take back anything good I ever said about him. The only thing that might make that OK would be if we also got Jeff Green in the trade. And how likely is that.

Rondo is a bad fit in general. If we give up more than draft picks/prospects and Jones or DMo for him, I'll be pissed off.

This notion of Beverley as a great defender is a canard. Lin ends up handling the major defensive duties against the lead guards when they're both on the floor. Beverley is more like a free safety, fighting for and picking up loose balls to get extra possessions for his team and can hit an open 3 from time to time. He has value as an energy guy off the bench...little more.

Battier was more than a corner 3 point shooter. He was good from any spot behind the arc as long as he was open/had time to get his shot off. He was defensive minded and a hustle guy. A great team defender as well

Courtney Lee is a simple corner 3 and D wing.

He is the most valuable because of his contract, youth, defense and potential.

So how come Harden only scored 8 points 3-7 fg with -16 +/- in the All-Star game???? It's because his game is based on getting non-calls called by the refs which is something that won't happen in the All-Star game. If Morey is trying to trade for Rondo, it's because he knows he is going to be embarrassed when his fake superstars Harden & Howard flop in the playoffs.
Even though, that won't make a difference because Rondo's athleticism is probably 1/3 of Patrick Beverley right now, but it will distract the fans...What he (& McHale) should be doing is try to take all dependency upon refs giving him calls out of Harden's game because that is certain to fail in the playoffs.

If this happens, how long before there is friction between Rondo and McHale? Over/under 2.5 games?

ClutchFans, where your +/- in the All-Star game is a predictor of post-season success. I just... sigh.

I think Beverley does need to be given credits for hustling, making plays, and annoying the opposing PGs. He does function pretty well with the first unit as well as with Lin, and at times his energy is what the team really needs. His turnover rate is also really low this year.

Anyway, another thing I find surprising is that with all the talk about the need for a 3 & D guy, not a single rumor has come out about who the Rockets is targeting for the SG/SF.
Isn't that 3 & D guy who the Rockets needs the most, or is this guy really easy to find anywhere?

If this team trades anything for rondo, we are done and pretty much out of the running for the next five years...

I like that roster. If Morey makes that happen he's a genius. Wouldn't put it past him but so many things got to go right and we are in definite whirlspin mode toward the end of the season. New 1, new 4, new backup 1, new backup 2, no Asik no Tjones. Lots of change and only 29 games left to make it work.
