In my opinion, fast-paced and tactical would be games like Battlefield, TF2, even Unreal Tournament. Each of those have an element that makes killing other players more difficult compared to COD and Titanfall, where the weapons have no recoil and you can be sniped across the map by an SMG. That's my main gripe with the COD series is that you can unload a full magazine and the bullets travel off-course by maybe 1 degree.
See, personally I don't consider any of those games tactical. ARMA, America's Army, SOCOM, DayZ, Rainbow Six, etc. are tactical to me. Battlefield 4 has plenty of low-recoil weapons (think Famas), and TF2 is a category all it's own in my opinion. Unreal to me isn't very tactical. Now, CoD vs. BF4 - yes there is a different play style even though both have the same weapons. Titanfall is fast-paced, and the low recoil to me is part of the world. You have these suits that let you do all kids of crazy crap - so that assisting with recoil shouldn't be a stretch. I think games like CoD and now Titanfall are easier for casual gamers to play. Me, as a pretty hardcore gamer I even get frustrated with all of the quirks of Battlefield 4's "realness" that takes hours and hours to get used to for each class and weapon type.
Yes, those are tactical games but rezdawg asked me what my opinion of fast-paced and tactical would be. Those are slow-paced, and another example would be Counter-Strike. Battlefield 4 does have low-recoil weapons, but nothing on the scale of COD/Titanfall. Just look at the accuracy plots and it's night and day. COD Ghosts - http://symthic.com/cod-ghosts-accuracy-plots Battlefield 4 - http://symthic.com/bf4-accuracy-plots The tactical part of Battlefield 4 is that you have to understand the range of the engagement to position yourself for accuracy and damage. Unreal, while not exactly tactical, you still have to understand your weapon and player movement because bullets don't travel instantly. Same with TF2. I think the games I listed do require more mastering and skill compared to COD and Titanfall. I agree that it makes it easier for casual gamers to pick up and play, but that doesn't make me think it's a good game.
I know this complaint seems legit, but when you look at people's stats in multi-player you will find that the average accuracy is below 15%. Most people miss with close to 90% of the shots they take in COD, so I think the argument that it's too easy to be accurate is off base. Accurate players wreck in COD.
I think playing the beta and making that assumption pretty much shows that you went in to it with your mind already made up, just as with the vast majority of people complaining about it did... "It's too much like CoD," when in fact it is nothing like CoD. You haven't seen all the maps, gameplay modes, or elements.
Accuracy can be a misleading stat. Shots can be fired for a multitude of reasons, and the lower skilled players will definitely bring that average down. It is easy to be accurate in COD when aiming down the sights. In Battlefield 4, you have to tap or burst to have consistent accuracy, in addition to weapons having different velocities and travel times. I was excited about this game because of the hype in this thread. It looked like it would add a new dimension with mechs and parkour, so you're wrong about me making up my mind before playing it. I know it's only a beta, but the weapons handle exactly like COD and that turns me off a lot. Even COD fans are calling it COD on steroids, which is an accurate description. People are touting this as the next COD killer. I think that's fair because the core of it (FPS) feels very similar. Is it the next-greatest evolution in FPS gaming? Not to me. I'll still finish out the beta for my chance to play, but this game isn't a must-have for me and I won't feel like I missed out on anything new if I don't purchase it.
I will never buy a gaming laptop because they are underpowered and overpriced, with ****ty battery life. Plus, you cannot upgrade them. I buy laptops/or iPads for work. Plus, I play in Madden leagues...which is not on the PC anymore. With consoles, everyone will have the same setup and games will be (or should be optimized) for that console.
Battlefield also has completely ridiculous game mechanics, such as the Aim Down Sight timer. Throw on top of that the ridiculous Field of View settings and lack of FOV adjustments. I love the game, but it is far from perfect. FYI - You can buy laptops that game and get work done. Most mid-range laptops have dedicate graphics, or can be upgraded to dedicated graphics for as little as $50. My machine, which I bought refurbished, can run every game on the market with at least medium settings on 720p. Most games run fine on high. That's fine for gaming on the road, and it cost me just $800. That doesn't fix your Madden issue however. Oh, and the battery life when non-gaming is like 9 hours because it isn't a small laptop.
Different strokes for different folks. I don't know what slow ADS you're talking about. COD and Titanfall does have a quick ADS compared to Battlefield, which in my opinion is very artificial. I'm not sure what FOV issues you have with Battlefield, either. I normally keep these settings at default, and I don't notice much difference between either game. Like I said before, I'm not saying Titanfall or COD are awful games. They just don't appeal to me as an FPS.
Some nice moves... <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/e7JHtvXengg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The Field of Vision in Battlefield 4 can be from 60-120. Players who play at 60 have a much easier time aiming down sight and killing. This video explains it. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/YRUFFEaTMA4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Along with the FOV changes the varying ADS timers based on weapon type and build is terrible for the average player - as they have no clue such a thing even exists. They just sit there and wonder why they get killed over and over by the same people. With BF4 ADS, you can't just start shooting once you are looking down sight. You have to look down sight, pause and then shoot. If you start firing as soon as you look down your sights, you're grouping is everywhere. If you want about a half second, you have an actual grouping.
Did you watch these videos for some tips? I recommend focusing on hard point as your game type especially if you are having trouble getting kills. You can score tons of points just taking and guarding capture points. Even if no one comes to try and take them back for several minutes, you score 75 points every few seconds while you are in range guarding. The level cap is 14, and it only takes a few hours to get there even if you don't have a great kill to death ratio on hard point. For load outs this is a good set up to try out, though I usually prefer the shield over electric smoke myself:
Yea...I found this IGN website that talks about it. Apparently, your supposed to die a lot when you start playing. Who knew? See below. ARRR!!!! You're Gonna Suck When You Start Don't worry, it's not just you -- everyone gets killed a lot when they first start playing Titanfall. Chances are many of the other people you're playing against have unlocked all the Pilot Loadouts, Titan Loadouts, weapons and enhancements in the beta. You'll get there too, but it's going to take time and patience -- just keep at it and don't give up!
The final product is the basis of what I just described. Unless they're gonna throw away all the game mechanics from the beta, I think it's pretty much the game you're gonna get plus a few extra maps and modes. Not worth my $60.
I disagree, but that's just me. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/i5fIAKj4MPM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I'll never, ever get tired of ejecting from the Titan. I even yell "GOOOOOOSE!" every time I do it.
Game seems awesome to me. Definitely not annoying like Ghosts. Great execution even if you don't like the feel.
It's ok if some people don't like it. There isn't a game out there that doesn't have people that dislike it. I do think the game mode matters a lot to my enjoyment. Hard point is a lot of fun, attrition gets old pretty fast. Haven't tried the other mode, but one life on a game where you die so easy didn't appeal that much to me even if you do start with a titan. I don't know if there are any other game modes in the full version. a capture the flag mode seems like it would be a good fit.
FOV is fixed. It's called a game mechanic; Just like the bullet drop that was introduced in Bad Company. BF is not a game where you jump in and expect to know everything. You have to learn it, just like any game. It is a tactical shooter which means you can't pick up any gun and go mowing down people like in CoD. It requires the player to be accustomed to their weapons and adjust accordingly.
I just finished my first game of Titanfall on PC. It's very easy and doesn't require any strategy. I was the only level 1 player and the lowest on each side were in the teens and I finished 15-3. Who knows, it may be beginners luck. I spent 5 minutes in the tutorial before I realized you can skip it and go straight to the beta. Needless to say, I won't be spending $60 on this game. I will probably play it a few more times until the beta expires which is when again?
