Lol thank you. We would be lucky if Portland agreed to this trade. Again there are still two issues, Asik going to a contender in our conference and Meyers Leonard being trash
#1 "Energy"? Should I match that up with the "hustle" of Asik? Energy is some impossible to quantify quality. #2 Matthews isn't really "young". #3 Who said anything about getting a super star for Asik? The question is, are you better holding on to Asik and letting him back up Howard and getting a shooting wing another way? #4 Also, Matthews is not a good defender and hasn't been for awhile now. As usage has gone up, his defense has gone down.... just like a certain SG and SF on the Rockets.
I would do nothing to improve the Blazers period. I also don't want a guy that hates us on that team, I pass. We can find other shooters.
I think you may be overvaluing expiring contracts in general. Doesn't seem like they are ever "extremely valuable" in the new CBA, with contracts much shorter than before. If Phoenix can't trade Okafor's expiring contract that is paid for by insurance, I really don't think Asik or Lin will net us any huge addition next year. That being said, I agree with the general sentiment that Asik and Lin have to go, somehow, some way or another. There is no room on this team for players that aren't superstars on max deals, rookie deals, or vets with close to min. deals.
Take out DMO and Casspi and Portland can keep their trash in Leonard basically Asik for Mathews and a pick
How much "hustle" have given us this year? Not responding to this Correct, and the answer is NO. We're better off with a relatively young player that can score, defend the wings & bring energy. A back up center can easily be replaced. Wesley Mathew's scoring & defense will change a playoff series before Asik will. You value Asik WAY to high bro Different team, different roles. He will be the 4th option and coming off the bench for us. I'm sure his "usage" won't be a problem playing for a contender
"Energy" in this sense can be quantified by total distance traveled per minute. Matthews is 20th (11th best non-PG) among guys with 30+minutes. He's 12th in overall distance. I still prefer Asik, but I do think it would be possible for Matthews plus something would get Morey to pull the trigger. I do doubt that Portland would risk their starting lineup which has been very good this season for Asik.
I love Wes Matthews, but if I was him I'd be furious to be traded to another team's bench in the middle of a breakout season. For that reason I don't feel it's much of an upgrade on the "disgruntled backup" front. Adding D-Mo to the trade is unnecessary as Asik is already a rarer commodity than Matthews. If Asik is traded, it essentially has to be either for a PF better than Terrence Jones or for multiple good backup players (and Meyers Leonard obviously doesn't count) who know they're backups. And in current circumstances, one of those backups kind of has to be a center. It really limits realistic options and that's why I think Omer Asik is still on this team after the deadline.
Let me make it clear.... I don't think it is an insane trade proposal, and I do think it is something both teams would consider. I just ultimately believe that Asik's skill set is rarer and that Morey would say no.... I do think Portland would do it, they need a legitimate defensive 5, and that is what Asik is.
No trade is fine with me. We already got the biggest addition before the deadline in the return of Asik from no mans land and Covington is a rising DLeague star. We got 2 young PF's that are improving and Greg Smith is even a possibility at some point. We could use some better three point shooting but I expect Harden to get better and if Garcia can return to form we will be okay.
