So, in your mind, "doing what is right" is going to the media about a personal problem with a coworker? Interesting theory. .....or being a member of a team, maybe a sports team, like maybe football. You don't destroy the team just because your feelings are hurt, people like that have no business being a part of a team. Now you can argue that people like Incognito also don't have any business being a part of a team as well, and you'd have a good case for it, but it doesn't make what Martin did "right" Clearly the concept of being part of a team is foreign to you, I accept that. So you equate reporting rape to the police to reporting a teammate being mean to you to the media? Interesting, tell me more. Again, I accept that the concept of being a member of a team is foreign to you, it wouldn't be if you didn't have to Google "Blue Falcon" to know what it meant. I'll even go a step further and suggest that if you were a person that didn't have to Google that term, you'd even be able to understand why you can't have people like that as part of a team and you wouldn't equate reporting rape to what Martin did.
Also, I'll add, Most normal adult human beings aren't in the military or on a professional sports team. What "normal adult human beings" would need or would do is completely irrelevant. If military or professional sports is your chosen vocation, then there are different rules for you and if you can't accept that then you won't be in professional sports or in the military anymore and that's all there is to it.
Reading the report may help you understand why he did and/or didn't do things. It is an incredibly interesting report. Very well done and thorough, but I guess you'll never know.
Since you've clearly read it, tell me something that you read in it that would change my mind. I can't see any reason that a player would go to the media rather than his coaching staff even if one low ranking member of the staff was involved. I can't see any reason why Martin wouldn't go to his teammates and ask them to cut it out. This situation is very simple, it was the "perfect storm" scenario of a pretty awful person and a sheltered mentally weak rich kid meeting. It's Incognito's fault for being an ass, and it's Martin's fault for being a ridiculous child about it all. If either had handled the situation well, it wouldn't have been a problem.
Also, you do realize that the Dolphins and the NFLPA were aware of the bullying and harassment (by Martin or his representatives) before any texts were made public - correct?
Nope. Folks have to read stuff for themselves to make up their own minds. In the time you have been posting about this you could easily have read the report. It is double spaced.
I'm pretty sure the report says that the head coach had no knowledge of what was going on, either that means the report is wrong/lying or he didn't let his coach know.
I read the Wells report. I read about the vile and disgusting things that Martin and others were subjected to. I read which coaches were and were not aware of at least some of the things going on. I read about Martin's interpretation of his own mental state and events in his life that may have formulated them. I read about a coach who went along with the players in their demeaning of "player A". I also know enough in general, regardless of any reports, that in no way, shape or form can I determine how someone else should react in such a situation.
That's not what I wrote. Read the comment you responded to again. Here, I'll help. I said that the Dolphins were made aware of the situation before the texts were made public. I said nothing about what they knew during the time the bullying was taking place.
Okay, but how is it relevant then? If he waited till after blowing up and leaving the team (but right before leaking the text to the press) then how was that supposed to help anything? The simple fact is that the kid handled things wrong, basically everyone involved handled things wrong and they are all guilty for their part in this fiasco.
No and HELL NO. In fact, I cancelled NBA League Pass and did not watch another Rockets game as long as that POS b*stard Artest was on the team. Before, I was as fierce a Rockets fan as there could be - I went to their games at Hofheinz and the Summit. I would drop by the Wheeler Ave YMCA on Saturday mornings just to watch Rudy T, Mike Newlin and Bobby Jo Reed play pickup ball. I bled Rockets red and lived off the koolaid. But there is a line that I will not cross and cheering for something as vile as Artest was never an option.
These are adult professional human beings. Your experience on the high school JV squad doesn't apply. It's not even college. I'm pretty sure they don't whip each other in the @ss with towels coming in and our of the showers. Being on a team at 12 years old is not equal to being on a team at 30.
Just stop, you have no idea what you are talking about so there's not really any point in this going on any further.
Fair enough, however the difference is that I have been in a similar environment, I highly doubt you have.
