I have a question for the salary cap gurus. It may have already been covered. What if the Rockets wait until next season has started to look to seriously trade Asik. Once the season starts, don't they have the ability to pay him whatever way they want to or he wants to be paid? For example, pay him a large lump sum up front as soon as they are able to, thus reducing the balloon payment that is scaring off so many teams. They also have the 'add cash to the trade' option. Tell Asik this year to finish the year strong and guarantee him a trade early next season. Basically Asik goes from being an undesirable contract, to one of the most sought after trade targets in the NBA: Elite defensive C 8.3 M cap hit Expiring contract ACTUAL payout close to cap hit after Rockets pay some up front and add cash to trade
I really like shumpert & chandler coming in but the only thing is giving up dmo, who would play backup PF ? This is why I wish smith was heathy all season, Knicks are looking for a big & he could've got it done over dmo. Melo has made it clear NY needs to start doing something by creating cap room or bringing in players or he's gone.
I would just be happy if the other playoff teams in the west didn't make an upgrade. I feel like Dallas and the warriors and the suns are all looking to make a move
Houston WILL make a trade or two here. Maybe not a blockbuster, but Omer Asik and Donatas Motiejunas are goners, maybe Jeremy Lin, too. Phoenix will trade for an upgrade at C. Omer Asik is an obvious target, so is Tyson Chandler, so is Anderson Varejao. Dallas likely stands pat. They don't have anything of value that they'd be willing to part with, anyway. Golden State may panic and trade Harrison Barnes for a quick fix. Although this team should be fine. The smart play has always been to embrace smallball and dump David Lee, but nobody wants to trade for Lee's contract, do they? Oklahoma City is looking to make a move, but it will be a small move. San Antonio, the Clippers, Portland all stand pat. I can guarantee you that the other Western Conference contenders are very worried that Morey is about to turn his team into a really, really good team here.
I know Barnes is hit or miss sometimes, but I would like him as a rotation player for the Rockets. Doubt they trade him to us. Unless it's part of a bigger deal.
And here is yet another variation of the sort of deal that I believe Daryl Morey is working on: Tyson Chandler and filler (Ronnie Brewer) to Phoenix; Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin to New York; Donatas Motiejunas, two 2014 first round picks (one from Phoenix, one from Houston), and Emeka Okafor (expiring contract) to Cleveland; Luol Deng (expiring contract, very good player), Iman Shumpert, and Miles Plumlee to Houston. Revised Rockets roster: The starting lineup PG Patrick Beverley (30 min/g) SG James Harden (36 min/g) SF Chandler Parsons (36 min/g) PF Terrence Jones (30 min/g) C Dwight Howard (30 min/g) The rest of the rotation Luol Deng (30 min/g) Iman Shumpert (30 min/g) Miles Plumlee (12 min/g) The end of the bench Aaron Brooks Francisco Garcia Omri Casspi Greg Smith Marcus Camby (signed shortly after trade deadline) Stashed in the developmental league Isaiah Canaan Robert Covington This is a realistic trade, and it transforms Houston into a legitimate championship contender. The offense is still very good, and the defense is suddenly outstanding, maybe the best in the league.
How can luol deng be traded, u need to wait 2 month to be trade again. That was why morey said asik needed to go be the dec 10 deadline because two month later what we could have gotten from his trade we could trade again at the feb 20 deadline. Loul deng was traded on jan 7 to Cleveland, so I don't think Cleveland can trade him.
Hou: Josh Smith Dal: Omer Asik Det: Shawn Marion, Donatas Motiejunas If Detroit insists on getting Jones, I'd still do it.
Deng can be traded, but only by himself. You can't package him and another Cleveland player together unless it's two separate transactions.
Would be a great haul for the Rockets. Salaries work: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lur446g
lin is not going to the knicks... did you guys forget what happened there? dolan would rather die than take back lin.
