New York is thrilled, but Houston is not interested in paying this much money for a backup C, no matter how good he is. This works: Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin to New York; Tyson Chandler to Phoenix; Iman Shumpert, Donatas Motiejunas, three 2014 first round picks (two from Phoenix, one from Houston), and Emeka Okafor (expiring contract) to Boston; Rajon Rondo, Brandon Bass, and Avery Bradley to Houston. This is a variation on the Rondo trade I proposed earlier today. Same logic.
I think we would rather have Shumpert than Avery Bradley. Bradley is too small to guard a guy like Durant. We need a backup SG or SF more than we do a PG.
Why would the Suns, who are essentially rebuilding (though they are doing well), trade two first rounders from one of the most stacked drafts in years & a huge expiring contract, for a past his prime center who can't stay healthy, and is making nearly $15 million a year?
As I explained earlier today, the two picks are both late first round picks, Indiana's pick and Phoenix's own pick. And Tyson Chandler is still a fantastic player. The Suns are a scary team with a dominant rebounder/defender at C, someone like Chandler or Asik.
Well, duh. Obviously Danny Ainge would MUCH rather have I man Shumpert. Boston isn't going to just give Rondo away. Avery Bradley would not play much for Housto. Houston only needs three guards: Rondo, James Harden, and Patrick Beverley. Houston does not need Shumpert or Bradley.
And how's that working out? But seriously, is he any good at guarding Durant? Never watch the Knicks.
Again, I'm not bashing Shumpert, I'm merely pointing out that Ainge obviously prefers Shumpert over Bradley. All teams do. Shumpert would be part of the package of picks and prospects received for Rajon Rondo.
I've been watching shumpert since he's been the nba, he basically a BEV same on offense streaky 3 shooter ok handles & exact same on defense, just taller and with more length so he dunks a lot compared to BEV.

Caveat: There will have to be a couple or few d-league throw-ins to make the salaries work but, the proposed core of the trade works in terms of team needs all the way around. Rox In -Dre Miller, Shump Out - Lin Why - We get a battle tested vet PG with play-making skills going into the playoffs and a defensive wing with serviceable scoring. Possible Foils - Possible lack of scoring in the 2nd unit and possibly Shump's health. Nug Nugs In - Tim Hardaway Jr, Raymond Felton Out - Andre Miller, Fournier Why - They get an upgraded dynamic rising SG to replace Fournier, they get to dump their disgruntled PG and, keep their starting core intact. Possible Foils - Felton's contract PO 15-16 NYK In - Lin, Fournier Out - Shump, Hardaway Jr, Felton Why - The get to dump Felton for a significantly better Lin, and a serviceable Fournier to shore up their loss of Shump and Jr. Possible Foils - Belief in Jr's value over Lin. More plausible than the Melo rosterbaters. NYK would sooner see that relationship to the bitter end than trade him.
I know this isn't a trade but Rodrigue Beaubois is making a comeback from his injury. Is he any good? Should the Rockets take a look at him?
I believe I posted it before, but with the trade deadline approaching this would be my (realistic) dream scenario Rockets: IN-Spencer Hawes, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Josh McRoberts Out-Omer Asik, Donatas Motiejunas, Isaiah Canaan, NY 2nd round pick 76ers: IN-Ben Gordon, Isaiah Canaan, Donatas Motiejunas, Bismack Biyomo, NY 2nd round pick, 1st round pick via Charlotte Out-Evan Turner, Thaddeus Young, Spencer Hawes Bobcats: IN-Omer Asik, Evan Turner, Thaddeus Young Out-Ben Gordon, MKG, Josh McRoberts, Bismack Biyomo, 1st round pick Rockets get a backup 5 that can also play some minutes next to Dwight and a young lock down wing defender. The trade solidifies the bench without giving up any of their top 6 players. 76ers unload quality players in their tank attempt while getting back 3 young prospects plus a couple of draft picks. Bobcats get help for their playoff push. They have shown interest in Turner and could also use some scoring from the 4 spot, which Young would provide, either starting next to Al Jefferson or coming off the bench (Big Al would play the 4 next to Omer).
DMo, Asik, and Brewer for Chandler and Shumpert makes sense for both teams. I know people whine about Chandler's contract but it expires same as Asik and he would provide similar if not better defense along with much better offense. Shumpert is your defensive wing depth. We are in win now mode folks and Chandler's a vet who would provide great off the bench production. Honestly of all the rumors and random trades thrown around on here at least this one makes some sense, doesn't cripple the 2015 cap, moves two guys who have requested trades (DMo, Asik) and another who's been heavily rumored to be traded in Shumpert.
It amazes me how much y'all sit around thinking of deals that wool never ever go through. Almost every scenario in here regarding Phoenix makes little to no sense. Trading multiple first round picks and picking up big money contracts..get real.
The Lin/Asik for Chandler/Shumpert rumor is an interesting idea. It works per the NBA trade machine. The trade could only happen if NY management sold Melo on the idea. The reports indicate that NY approached Houston on the idea, and I don't think that would've happened without Melo indicating he was open to the idea. The trade would allow NY to reduce its cap it and maintain salary flexibility in 2015 while providing the team a major upgrade at its weakest link (PG) and a very capable replacement with upside at Center with some potential advantages over Chandler (size, youth). For Houston, the upside is unclear. Chandler has the same offensive limitations as Asik and so integrating him with Howard would be a challenge. However, the Rockets would undoubtedly get more out of Chandler than they have been able to out of Asik. The other issue is whether Shumpert starts as the Point or SG alongside Harden to give that defensive matchup advantage that Beverley lacks because of his lack of size and propensity to foul, and how Houston replaces Lin's ability to create his own offense for himself and teammates. I guess Houston makes this move if they think the current roster can't make it to the finals and that they absolutely need to give Howard and Harden some defensive help to move forward. Come to think of it, the trade seems to make more sense for Houston when you look at it that way.
