I can't believe how many of y'all buy into Sloan as a coach. I am very knowledgeable of bball. I from bballl country where I watched Deron his entire college career. Please tell me what offense Sloan is reknowned for? I'm not saying I'm more knowledgeable of basketball than you...I'm just saying I hate coaches like Bobby Knight and Sloan...with a passion. They suck. Sloan is reknowned for quitting. Who f(cking quits unless they know they can't hang. He is no longer a coach, because he lost his best player. He is still not a coach, because nobody wants him. And y'all are saying he made a 3rd pick in the draft into a player. Whatever. Fact is...Sloan quit.
Injuries. When healthy, he's an awesome point guard. If I recall, after the all-star break last year, he was putting up some really good numbers. Sucks that he isn't able to stay injury free for awhile now though. He's one of my favorite players, hope he can get back to all-star form again.
I don't know... Remember when he was traded to the nets his shoot percentage immediately dropped from the high forties to the mid thirties. I really think Sloans system helped him more than we think.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Deron Williams. He is the same scrub chucker that he has always been.
1. Injuries - his ankles are deteriorating, I know from personal experience when your ankles start to go, you can't run the same. 2. His attitude - He should've left Utah under better conditions, I'd say playing for Sloan may have been one of the best fortunes of his young career. 3. Bad team - when you are on a mediocre team in and chaotic system, your numbers can and do go down, I don't care how magical a player is, when he has substandard team mates or play around him ... successes. 4. Reality is he maybe in decline, and point guards often come down to Earth around the age of 30-32, like most superstar player. 5. ???? - he may not have tried to improve his game, and it happens to everyone. When you don't try to add or improve your game in some shape or form, you decline much faster. He should look at his head coach as a good example of how to avoid that, Kidd used to be a terrible shooter, but over the years became a very quality jump-shooter and 3 point range spot guy, while he was already a good, smart defender and master at running an offense ... he just extended his career probably by a good 5 to 6 seasons.
