Two, three years ago this guy was a bonafied all-star, top 3 PG.

He had yet another horrendous game tonight...he went 4-14 from the field tonight (0-4 from 3), 6 turnovers.

He's averaging 13, 7, and 2 on 45% from the field...which isn't shabby, but by no means are these #s worth the MAX contract he got.

So...whats the deal with D-Will? All injuries? Is he just a system PG? Where's he rank among todays PG; did we dodge a bullet when he nixed our offer?

/please please please dont turn into a Lin thread

He didnt realize the importance of having a HOF coach like Jerry Sloan teaching him how to be a good PG...left Utah and never quite was the same...

Really shocking for me, bc personally I had high hopes for him.

Frankly, I am so glad he is with the Nets. I just get the impression the owner just thought he was going to come in here and "buy" his ring. I get that same feeling with the Knicks (even though they never do) and the Lakers. It doesn't work that way in the NBA, homie.

Constant injury. Did we dodge a bullet? Yessir. I don't think he will ever recover to the point where he plays up to his contract. In fact the Nets will be lucky if he can stay healthy and play most games at the level he's at.

Please don't say it was because of Jerry Sloan. That's like saying it was because of Boozer being his PnR teammate.

    What has Boozer done since?

I agree, though. I do find it puzzling, albeit injuries. But I don't watch NJ games at all. Been following Deron since his freshman year at UofI, until he got traded to NJ. He has always been a pure PG.

Deron called himself a system point guard. Whose system do you think he was talking about?

Injuries and just a general sense of complacency. I don't think Williams really ever tries to improve his game and it's caught up with him.

Interestingly enough, the Nets could probably trade him; but the only takers would be the Knicks and Brooklyn would like like NY K'S b**** if they traded their "star" to the cross town team.

WTF? Sloan has always been a good systems coach, he already established his rep with Stockton and Malone and decades of Utah competitiveness despite playing in one of the smallest markets and worst cities for NBA players (Mormon country doesn't exactly promise a great nightlife).

IMHO Sloan had a lot to do with it, because he was the one who trained D-Will since he was a rookie, and was probably pushing and prodding him to be better. Rather than gimpy ankles, I think D-Will's problem is the same as T-mac's: laziness and lack of drive. Shooting has nothing to do with ankles, forget ankles Brandon Roy had no knees but until the day he retired he was shooting a good percentage. That's a sign of good work ethic, oth D-Will has been streaky after being a consistently good shooter which tells me he stopped working on his game since he and Sloan parted ways.

The dude's out of shape, and the added weight has been putting a lot of burden on his ankles. Not only that he also stopped trying on D since he can barely run the full length of the court without becoming out of breath. Just like Tmac he's been depending on his natural gifts since he left Utah, and since he's already old and has chronic injuries that isn't gonna cut it anymore.

He hasn't been Deron Williams good since leaving Utah and Sloan. The Nets have been a terrible franchise but D-Will regressed so much. Thank God we didn't trade Lin and Asik for him.

Les should hire Sloan as an adviser to our guards. Hakeem works with Dwight, Jones, and D-Mo. Sloan can work with Harden, Lin, Beverley, and Parsons.

I think I jinxed him when I took a picture with him at a apple store in this hill billy mall in San Diego during the shortened lockout season. He's been crappy ever since.

University of Illinois. He's always been a pure PG. He didn't need to be taught that, if you are saying Sloan taught him how to be a pure PG.

Sure, a coach can create a system around you, but he has always been a pure PG.

We often disagree, don't we. :)

Sloan didn't train Deron how to be a pure PG. Deron took an undefeated UofI team to the NCAA Finals, and was the 3rd pick overall in his draft. He already knew how to be a pure PG.

If anything, Sloan made him hate the NBA. Playing for Sloan is like playing for Bobby Knight. Sloan lost his best player. And you're going to blame it on the player? ok.

Fine. He's out of shape. It's his fault. But, Sloan wasn't going to make him better, because Sloan can't coach all players. He wants to rule over them. Just like Bobby Knight.

Isiah Thomas hated Bobby Knight. Isiah didn't learn much from Knight.

Deron didn't learn much from Sloan, either; except how to hate his coach.

But go ahead and say Deron needed an iron fist. fine. No use me trying to say Sloan isn't a coach anymore....and "What happened to Jerry Sloan." Maybe I should start a thread about Sloan.

It's because he wants to be called "De-ren" instead of "Da-Ron"
