I'm trying to pursue a career as a Physical Therapist Should I change my major? Should I Double Major? I'm so confused...
That was my major. I haven't had the opportunity to put it to use, but i knew i'd be limited, when i decided to get it. When i got it, at UH, they didn't have as many options as they do now. I basically learned a little bit of everything (nutrition, exercise science, PT, weight training, health, etc). It gave me a good foundation, but I don't think it prepared me enough to specialize in any one of those areas. I don't think it's useless though, if you're using it to get into a PT program, but it probably isn't ideal. There are schools that have programs geared towards PT, so you're better off with those than just general Kinesiology. It just depends on the school. Some have specific options and others just have general ones. You should probably look at the prereqs for whatver PT program you want to go into. What school are you in?
I don't think so. I'd imagine that you could find work in sports pretty easily being a Kinesiology major. I'd imagine that you would have exactly the sort of knowledge of the human body, exercise, and so on to help atheletes with their strength and conditioning. A double major may be worthwhile, too. Couldn't hurt. You'd only be adding more to what you can bring to an organization. My advice in college is to take advantage of the networking opportunities with various firms. Contrary to what some people think, it helps to know people who'll take a shot on you. Employers are so bogged down with resumes from fresh college grads, that its difficult to stand out, even if your resume is very impressive. But if you know somebody who can vouch for you, that's what will really make you stand out.
Dam, I wasted 2 years before changing. It was in demand back then but I realized I don't like hospitals or seeing people sick or hurt. Its still a very high demand for this occupation with good pay. I hated not having a career path. Good luck bro
University of Houston. Below is the degree plan I'm following. I'm a Sophomore. I heard UT has a better program so I'm looking into it. http://www.uh.edu/class/hhp/_docs/degreeplans-fa13/BS Checklist -KIN EX-HEALTH FA 2013 plan.pdf My second major most probably would be in Business. And what are some best ways to network? I'm not very good at networking.. Most people I've met are from the UH rec. I've been in 2 organizations so far, one was a bust. I'm still in the other.
My friend graduated with A Kinesiology degree from UH in 2013 and is now working as a physical therapist.
I have a Kines degree from SHSU and I've never come close to using it. Even though I was going to be a teacher/coach, there was absolutely no point to it for me.
One of my friends graduated with a kinesiology degree...want a PT assistant/tech for a few years trying to get into PT program. He's since moved on to a completely different career.
Useless. Do whatever major you want in college, add summer experiences/research/shadow/volunteer to bolster your PT application instead. Make sure you want to do PT though- a lot of people go into it think it's a lot of rehab with athletes but most PTs do nothing close to that
It's legit. The physics of kinetics by using the intellectual mind. You can bend forks and spoons without touching but there's no jobs for that.
