Tim Tebow's T-Mobile commercial could not have come out at a better time. Actually they should play it over and over right before the draft just to remind us, JFF = TT.
If the #1 Adjusted QBR is only impressive if it's done in the SEC, then it seems silly to mention Luck and Kaepernick. If level of competition matters, then metioning Kaepernick seems even more absurd. Either #1 Adjusted QBR matters for these players or doesn't. Which is it?
Glad everyone is in agreement. So while some will try to bring up a spread system as a concern…it isn't based on reality… it is based on group think!!!!!! This is the first 3 rounds of the last 5 drafts as a snap shot. Top 6 spread QB from the last 5 drafts Cam Newton 1st rounder Colin Kaepernick 2nd rounder Robert Griffin III 1st rounder Joe Flacco 1st rounder Andy Dalton 3rd rounder Sam Bradford 1st rounder Top 6 pro Style quarterbacks of the last 5 drafts Andrew Luck 1st rounder Matt Ryan 1st rounder Russell Wilson 3rd rounder Matthew Stafford 1st rounder Josh Freeman 1st rounder Christian Ponder 1st rounder …………………………………………………………………………………………….. OR what about note worthy busts or under achievers Spread offense Blaine Gabbert 1st rounder Tim Tebow 1st rounder Colt McCoy 2nd rounder Kevin O’Connell 3rd rounder Pro style Jake Locker 1st rounder Christian Ponder 1st rounder Jimmy Clausen 2nd rounder Mark Sanchez 1st rounder Brian Brohm 2nd rounder Chad Henne 2nd rounder The TRUTH ……. Based on facts just pure facts… it appears drafting is trending toward spread quarterbacks…. success is trending toward spread quarterbacks… the NCAAF is trending toward spread systems….. in a nut shell. Suggesting that a quarterback that comes from a spread oriented offense as a issue is lazy analysis…. out of date… simply not good enough. You didn't show your information about quarterbacks from spread oriented systems relative to the success of quarterbacks from conventional systems…. HISTORY disputes the narrative that this is a valid concern…. in fact there could be a case made that these players in these spread oriented schemes are having MORE success than “others”… based on the shear facts when you compare their success rates to each other in resent years. WASTE of TIME It is a waste of time to use a scheme a player played in as means of evaluations. Skill sets are what is needed to be evaluated NOT what system they played in. Skill sets can be evaluated….NOT a system… prospects walk through your door with their skill sets NOT their college coach or prior system……… as proven with facts above. My point is that the VERY notion that this is a concern as a prospect is overrated. The entire conversation doesn't match the reality of WHAT is actually happening. And WHO is excelling…. Where is the post about other schemes?…. truth is .. I don’t believe scheme is a skill set…. I believe good coaches can give a quarterback a system that can be more than productive but dynamic……….so again why are we having this conversation when QB’s from these systems many could argue are having more success than >> “others”. sorry if it sounds that way It is just so many fans are programmed to generalize as if all players from this system are good and all players from that system are bad “type of thinking”…. when in my opinion people that think like that totally and completely miss out on what is important >> ability of the player.
yeah I'm not surprised by all this disagreement, even after people watch film. It's not like watching film is all one needs to do -- you have to know what you're looking for. So when people come in here and say "oh I've watched every game they've ever played", well that doesn't really matter if you don't have a clue what to look for...
First off.... I didn't say it was ONLY impressive because he plays in the SEC... I said it was impressive that he did it in the SEC. Plus he was on a team with no defense where he was under pressure to score and make something happen every time he had the ball. That's why I don't knock him for his erratic plays because those kind of plays should be expected from a player that's in the process of changing up his style. Also Kaepernick wasn't a #1 pick or a first round pick for that matter and that could possibly be because of the conference he played in, BUT at least he still lead the nation in QBR playing in a weak conference which is something that Teddy and Blake didn't do. And I also mentioned Russell Wilson who played in two different conferences. Joseph asked for an argument for Johnny without the word "magical" so I gave him one. What I'm saying doesn't guarantee anything but it's still a valid point.
From what I've seen, that theory also extends to posting on this board, as demonstrated by the 3 or 4 guys who go around in every single thread and muck it up with the same drivel over and over again.
SEC is overrated as ****. You have a couple of elite SEC teams and then everything else it is the same level as other divisions
This was the kill shot to anybody talking about drafting Manziel 1st overall. I find it interesting that the people who stout the stats are his biggest supporters but the people who have actually watched his games want no part of him Its Clowney or Bridgewater fellas
The comment by RussLande indicates he has charted (watched film) the top QBs and Manziel makes the fewest errors. Does not appear to be a stat based argument to me.
RussLande we are talking about, I and many other people including many other scouts, see nothing of the sort
Healthy Andre Johnson on Johnny Manziel, Michael Sam, Texans Johnson has spent time with Manziel and believes he’s a “great player.” The Texans hold the No. 1 pick in the May draft. If they select a QB, Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Manziel are the leading candidates. “(Manziel) seems like a good kid. Very into football,” Johnson said. “He’s exciting. He’s an exciting player to watch. I enjoyed watching him in college. He doesn’t have the name Johnny Football for nothing. I think he’s a great player.” http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...el-the-next-tony-romo-matching-prospects-pros Johnny Manziel Tale of the tape: Quarterback, Texas A&M, 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, 4.55-second 40-yard dash. Pro comparison: Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys, 6-2 1/8, 230, 5.01 40. It's tough to come up with a perfect comparison for Manziel. His build and frame are similar to that of Jeff Garcia. His smooth, effortless running style reminds me a little bit of Michael Vick (although Vick in his prime was more explosive). His scrambling ability has elicited more than a few comparisons to Doug Flutie. However, I decided to go with Tony Romo. The Cowboys' signal-caller is bigger, but he and Manziel have similar skill sets and styles of play. As passers, neither Manziel nor Romo have elite arm strength, but they can both generate enough velocity to make all of the throws on the passing tree. Also, they can deliver the ball accurately from a variety of platforms and arm angles. They both have outstanding pocket awareness and the ability to escape the free rusher. They excel at extending plays and delivering accurate throws while on the move, to both the right and left sides of the field. The biggest difference between the two lies in Manziel's ability to take off and pick up chunk yardage as a runner. P.S.: Texans now follow Manziel
Of course 'Dre isn't making the decision(s) but interestingly enough, he said he would trade back. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Andre Johnson tells me if he had #1 pick -I would probably trade it,but that’s just my opinion, doesn't make it right. or that they should.</p>— David Nuño (@DavidNunoABC13) <a href="https://twitter.com/DavidNunoABC13/statuses/433674699709485057">February 12, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Dre has spoken again.... Translation: I don't want to spend my last few good years waiting around on one of these rookies.
Well, I agree with Andre Johnson, a trade down does seem to be the right idea if they don't want Clowney.
A trade down is the right idea regardless of Clowney. Pass rushers aren't hard to find... Especially in this draft.
