Was hoping that someone with more football knowledge than me or someone that watches alot of college football is able to provide their own scouting report on what separates Johnny football from case kenum in the pocket. Obviously j manziel vision and ability to improvise makes him special. Athletically he is far superior but wanted to know if he has the same flaws in the pocket as kenum ie. fade in the pocket on the blitz etc. Same offense so should be pretty easy to compare. Thanks in advance.
You do know Case had Newton blocking for him and the offensive line pretty much suxked this past season and the running game was mediocre at best when Case got his chance to play. MOST quarterbacks in the NFL will have "flaws in the pocket" like Case when the defense can go on an all out jail break on passing downs. See Eli and Ryan this past season for an example. So no... It's not easy to compare. And plus you're asking to judge a guy playing in college against a guy playing in the pros....
Think he meant in college, if you read his post, he says same offense. If you didn't know, Case Keenum and Johnny Maziel had the same coach in college. They did play for different colleges though, Keenum went to U of H were Sumlin was his coach, then Sumlin moved to A&M where he then coached Manziel.
Gotcha... Thanks for the clarification. My bad... Well then it's still hard to compare considering they both played on different competition levels. Kind of like the Johnny Vs Teddy debate. And probably why Case went undrafted.
Maybe but there are times when d players come unblocked on all levels. Kenum was describe as having eyes in the back of his head good at escaping the pocket. Kenum also showed he could get a couple of extra ticks with his feet. Jfb on another level but don't remember case playing jump ball. Of course he was throwing to avery and p Edwards. I'm off course here just wanted to compare pocket presence and arm strength stuff like that
If you want to compare the college careers. Keenum under sumlin set records for passing yards, passing touchdowns, total touchdowns, total yards, completions and attempts. JFF under sumlin does not come near the passing stats that Keenum did. However he also did not play as many years. JFF does have a higher yard per play avg than keenum slightly as well as a slightly better qb rating(160 vs 164) Too totally different playstyle's so its hard to compare honestly. I would say that JFF did have more talent around him and played against tougher opponents. I would say the best way to compare them is take the single best year for each player. Keenums best year (subjective but I would say it was his senior year) when he threw for 5,600 yards, 48 td's, 5 ints and had a yards per play avg of 9.3 and a rating of 174 which I believe is the highest you can have. JFF's best year he had 4,100 yards, 37 td's, 13 int's, 9.6 yards per play and a rating of 172. However, When comparing the two you also have to account for JFF's rushing ability which greatly surpasses Keenum. Keenum also had a ton more attempts than JFF throwing the football.
