Ha, yeah Douglas, the stallworth receiver out of the bunch. The problem is they're paying Asante Samuel, Dunta Robinson (at one point), William Moore and a bunch of other nobodies to provide band aids for that defense. Two of their top 5 players on offense are overrated Guards Blalock and Baker (who should not be playing LT). The team is a mess and that's not because Matt Ryan has no talent but because he has literally no one to throw to. Roddy White was not the same player, Julio Jones was out most the year and same could be said for Steven Jackson. The only constants were an aged Gonzalez and a nobody in Harry Douglas. Like I said the Dolphins and Rams would gladly redo their 2008 draft and select Ryan 1st or 2nd overall. Hell they'd probably also trade their current QBs for Ryan if they had the opportunity. I'd gladly take him over Schaub that's for sure.
I wouldn't want Matt Ryan with the #1 pick. I never said that. When I said he'd go 1st that was to demonstrate how he was graded compared to this batch of guys. In other words, there are no Andrew Luck's or RG3's here. I'm scared ****less of reaching for a QB. I'm not saying Bridgewater shouldn't be that guy but ultimately, we're dealing with a Bradford or Ryan caliber class at best. The thing is... Matt Ryan wouldn't be bad at all. There are so few elite quarterbacks. So few. You have got to find other ways to win other than finding Tom Brady, because there aren't any. Couple that with the fact that Brees, Manning (the good one), Brady and Rodgers haven't been winning all the titles lately and you realize... Matt Ryan? You can get it done with a Matt Ryan. I just hope we don't pass up someone who is elite at their position for a good but not great QB.
This, things like arm strength, mobility, accuracy, ability to read defenses etc. are measurable. To a lesser extent, mental makeup is measurable by interviewing. Saying things like his competition sucks, is not measurable because you don't know how much it would impact his performance as a pro. It's a guessing game, which is why the argument is weak.
Funny how you say Matt Ryan has "NO ONE TO THROW TO" when Atlanta was in the top 5 in YAC... Houston was ranked #24 with two 1st round receivers on the field all year... And you can make all the excuses you want for Matt Ryan but it's also funny how you didn't mention he turned the ball over 21 times in 16 games. But you're blaming everyone else but him.
Bingo, Many pro qb have played in elite competition college and excelled and sucked once they got to the pros, and quite a few starters in the league have played "mediocre" competition in college and excelled and are top qbs. Speaking on Matt Ryan, I saw a lot of games where his lack of mobility and pocket maneuvering hurt a lot. He could navigate the collapse of pressure from the edge rushers while the DTs are getting pressure up front.
I agree with this... And Brady and Manning are the only two truly elite quarterbacks because they constantly get their teams deep in the playoffs regardless of the circumstances of their teams. Guys like Matt Ryan don't. And as much as I like Brees and Rodgers _ they don't either.
This is always one of the more obvious faults of amateurs draft watchers (and why I find the whole process so remarkably silly): faulty correlation. Brohm's scouting report, career, etc. - no matter how closely it resembles Teddy Bridgewater's (or anyone else's, for that matter) - is 100% irrelevant. Nope; scratch that: 1,000,000,000,000,0000000000000000000000000(keep adding zeroes)% irrelevant. You can look and look and look for days to try and find some scientific component to this - but you will not find one. There are dozens upon dozens of reasons QBs fail/succeed; each one is an individual with their own code. There is no predictor. And if - IF - Teddy Bridgewater's career turns out to be as unremarkable as Brohm's... it will be a coincidence. Nothing more.
Yes because he plays with a horrible offensive line, a horrible defense, and doesn't not have any weapons to help for at leas the past season. It's a team game obviously so it falls on everyone but Matt Ryan isn't solely to blame for their debacle of a season. They had an awesome YAC because they were playing from behind cause their defense sucked so badly and were given cushions to gain yards instead of score points. It's easy to see that as being the reason for the slighted stats. You should know that.
That's not the correct definition of Elite. There are about 4 or so "elite" qb's (Brees, Rodgers, Manning, Brady). I see that you severely underrate the QB position, which is probably the main reason why I have such an awesome signature, but ultimately you can't win in this league without a good QB. The better your QB is, the more room you have to "slack" at the other positions. There is not a single position that can positively (or negatively) affect the team more than QB.
So are you saying Schaub/Case had a great offensive line...???? Foster was hurt. Our receivers can't get any YAC are make plays to get in the end zone and our defense couldn't stop a set of breaks... If we make that argument for Ryan we have to make that argument for Schaub/Case as well. BUT yet no one is making that argument for them.
Flacco had more yards and more touchdowns (and no interceptions) during his super bowl run than Brees and Rodgers. He's also been deeper in the playoffs more times than Brees and Rodgers as well and he actually out played Tom Brady when they lost in the AFC championship a few years back... I value quarterbacks but I just don't overvalue them like yourself (only on my fantasy teams)... And great signature by the way... Too bad you don't understand it
Schaub and Keenum can't even sniff Eli or Ryan's jock straps. Those two are football QB Gods compared to what we had in a Texans uni this past year. Exactly why WE, not them, have the worst record in the NFL and the #1 overall pick right now. They managed to win more than 2 games within all that, we barely won 2 games, within all that.
If only winning 4 or 7 games is the goal... Well then congratulations to them. You're making a who's the prettiest girl in a ugly girl competition argument... 2 wins, 4 wins, 7 wins is ugly no matter how you look at it.. And with Carolina and Tampa on their way up _ I bet Atlanta doesn't make the playoffs next year either.
Regardless, you're putting down a solid QB for having one bad season and bringing up another 2 time champ while comparing them to 2 others that have done just about squat at the same time. You can bet whatever you want, no one knows if next year Cam goes down to injury or even worse Kuechly, but if they (ATL) make smart decisions in the draft and pick up worthwhile free agents without giving up the bank for them, they could be back in it. It wasn't too long ago that the Panthers were that conferences doormat team. Tampa still is and has been for a while. Saints were for a year, now they're back... you never know.
