I finally got around to watching this yesterday.

Is there a dedicated Donnie Darko thread in the Hangout?

There are issues I want to ask/discuss..

    I love The Prestige.

I'll add JCVD and High Fidelity.

Yeah, it's buried in that thread full of stoner, college kids that say Donnie Darko and Butterfly Effect are their favorite movies to be cool. Back when $80 ripped up jeans were cool.

While I think this was a movie a lot of people have seen, it is indeed fantastic. Good call.

Sticking with Clooney...Up in the Air is another very good one of his.

Yes, which is why I never bothered to watch it until now. However, that said, any thread necromancers want to find the thread and bump it? Instead of having to start a whole new thread about it?

Are you not capable of doing a quick search yourself? Do you not know how?

+1 on Rescue Dawn. That movie is sleeper good. I saw it at the LA arclight theater when it first came out. Absolutely great film!

I might have said the original Korean OldBoy, but with Spike Lee's (much inferior) adaptation now released, I'm assuming more people have seen it now. If you haven't, it's on Netflix.

Also, not a lot of people watch anime films. If you haven't seen at least one movie by Hayao Miyazaki, you're seriously missing out, he's the greatest director of animated films who ever lived. Pick just one from Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Porco Rosso, or My Neighbor Totoro. He's done other great ones, but those are my favorites.

    Here's my Two Cents:

El Hijo de la Novia (Son of the Bride in English) - if you don't know spanish you have to read it. But it's a wonderful Oscar nominated film about an Argentinian restauranter who has to figure out what the hell he wants in life. Loved it.

Igby Goes Down - I read and hated "Catcher in the Rye" but I really liked this movie, which is very similar. Solid performances by Kieran Culkin, Susan Sarandon, Jeff Goldblum, Claire Danes. No one I know saw this film.

Wonder Boys - a Michael Douglas, Robert Downey Jr film about a professor who also needs to get his life in order. A young Katie Holmes compulsively clad in red cowboy boots. What's not to like?

I really liked all these movies.

    Thanks Tallanvor :)

I guess I will have to admit to being embarrassed that, no, I do not know how to search old threads - I always thought you had to be a 'Contributing Member' to have that ability, but if I am wrong, I would love to know how to do it.

Not sure if you have to be a contributing member or not. The way to do it would be to click 'Search' in the above menu and select 'Advanced Search'. Then change the Keyword drop down menu to 'Search Titles Only'.

Ahh, ok, I don't have those menu selections, so it must be a contributing member thing only. Thanks for the info :)
