One reason why ADHD is becoming more and more of a problem. Inability to focus on one thing for an extended period of time or sit quietly in a room with ones own thoughts.

No. A misdiagnosis of ADHD would be the learned inability to focus on one thing for any set amount of time due to short bursts of information and distractions from the internet. ADHD diagnosis have gone through the roof since the invention of the Internet.

    Think You're Multitasking? Think Again

I never believed in multitasking but this article from a few years back gives me some scientific evidence.

I was aware of this phenomenon, but thank you for the video and the Atlantic article. I personally began struggling in 2005 when it came to reading prose. However, I don't the Internet changes how we think and our brain structure permanently.

That is, I made a decision to limit Internet activity to 2h/day. I made it a point to browse CF, read the news, scan social media, and sign off. Hobbies like hunting, astronomy, and camping/kayaking/hiking/biking also helped unplug me from the Web. There's only so much you can absorb regarding some conflict happening out there, some economic policy being debated, some trade agreement being signed, etc. As a result of unplugging, I've become happier.

Reading for leisure contributed too. I forced myself to read a new novel every week. The first month was difficult. However, I quickly regained and improved the reading skills I had in undergrad. Regardless of how lengthy or strangely written the passage (looking at you, Mervyn Peake), I eventually read it easily. A friend joined me in my reading goal, and her experiences have mirrored mine.

TL;DR If people consciously limit electronic communication to a certain time, read more books regardless of how boring they may seem, go outdoors more, spend time alone without checking email or work projects, and do something simple like visiting old friends and talking over tea, that may relax our brains and maintain their structure.

Thought this was pretty clear, although I don't know how much of it is the internet and more of the fact that our body does not adapt as quickly as society has. Hence why we have trouble doing things like losing body fat or focusing on one individual thing.

What a way to make a living. Barely getting by, it's all taking and no giving. They just use your mind and they never give you credit.

Its enough to drive you crazy if you let it.

Awww poor thing hasn't had her morning vegan green juice and doobie.

and... ummmmm.... You're one to speak about ditching your spouse.... I'm actually happily married & would never encourage this. Is ditching your wife and traveling to Thailand to chase foreign psssy any different than ditching your husband and traveling to midtown to chase man cougars? ;)
