Is it just me or do people in the media nitpick the Rockets more than most teams. I was watching the post game after the local blackout lifted on NBATv and after beating Minny pretty handley and winning 6 in a row all they seemed to mention was how Houston arent contenders yet and what their flaws are and not any positives....thats fine because there are plenty of flaws but given the Rockets current circumstances (Being on a semi-roll and handling the wolves at home on TV) it came off as nitpicking to me. Do the Rockets get nitpicked and scrutinized an excessive amount is the question at hand.
Funny how criticism is so much louder toward our team as opposed to the Warriors ho were thought to be closer to contending status than us.
Is the point that you just made.....the Warriors are the media darlings of the NBA and often mentioned ahead of the Rockets in the contender convo to the point of which if you didnt know better you would think they are a top three team in the West (8th in reality). Not to mention that the Rockets spank them in every single meeting but are still potrayed as pretenders even though were only 3 games or so back of the 2 seed.
Not in general. It's more like the Rockets are largely ignored or marginalized. On Clutchfans, yes, they are nitpicked to death. But that's to be expected.
Good thing because it keeps the team extra motivated.. and you know they listen. Rockets couldn't handle being praised. They can barely handle a 10 point lead without relaxing. Media needs to continue.
Maybe marginalized is a better description....I think theyre marginalized but when they do get analyzed its mostly critical.
Please correct me if I am wrong but the context in which we are criticized is for the question of whether we are contenders or not. I feel that the criticisms are valid based on that context. I think most will agree that we are an above average team that can make noise in the playoffs but if we want to advance farther, we have to fix some things.
I realize the criticisms are valid but to only bring up criticisms escpecially after a nice win amongst a winning streak is a bit much. Also if the media is going to put GSW in the contender category they damn sure better put the Rockets there. I dont think we realize the Rockets have a really good record and arent that far out from having a top 3 seed.
It's because they haven't proven anything yet. And after they got Dwight Howard, there was a lot of talk about a championship. People in the media (and outside the media) push back on the contenders talk because the Rockets haven't done anything yet. They are still unproven. Until they prove something, they will be seen as a pretender. The Warriors last year won a playoff series and were very competitive in their next series with the Spurs. And they added Iggy this year, so analysts are expecting them to be better come playoff time. If the Rockets make noise in the playoffs this year, the talk will change next year.
It's cause your watching NBA TV. Rick Fox is an idiot and knows nothing about basketball analysis. I don't even like Greg Anthony. My favorite part is when Chris Webber and Brent Barry are on there.
Last night it was Matt Weiner hosting with Dennis Scott and Brent Barry (I usually like that duo) I agree about Rick Rox and Greg Anthony...IMO Sam Mitchell might be the worst.
Even Morey said we weren't contenders in the beginning of the season. We are a couple of pieces away and Morey made that clear. No one from the team labeled themselves contenders. That take time and chemistry. Our goal this year was home court for the first round. It always has been. Morey has made that clear and so far we are there
They play the way the NBA wants teams to play and they are fun to watch with a great home crowd and a star who's father was in the league. People love good stories. Come playoff time reality will set in. Rockets are hard to watch someitmes but always seem to win.
Oh yeah my bad on the Rick Rox (Fox) typo....sounds like a bad p*rn name. Then again so does Rick Fox.
Dwight Howard, James Harden & Jeremy Lin are three of the most hated/over-scrutinized players in the NBA. For very different reasons of course. What do you expect?
I wouldn't go that far, lol. Dwight has definitely lost fans from what happened in LA and Orlando though.
