Wong Kar Wai's film Chungking Express.

Even though it was adored by critics, whenever I bring it up to people, they've never heard of it.

I know a lot of people that didn't see Man Of Steel because they heard it was rubbish.

I watched it the other day and thought it was easily the best Superman movie Ive seen. I really enjoyed it.

    Not too obscure but...

Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut. An absolutely incredible movie that is leaps and bounds better than the mangled and forgotten theatrical version.

The Iron Giant. Among the best animated movies ever but was largely ignored when it hit theaters.

Love that movie! I ate at the same night cafe just for it. I did the same thing for Lost in Translation by staying and dining at its hotel.

Totally agree with others about Scott Pilgrim. That was a criminally under seen movie.

    My picks:

    Babe: Pig in the City
    Wristcutters: A love story

Awesome topic OP (though i thought Rescue Dawn was not-so-great). I'll be using this thread a lot for these recs.

    I'll throw in:

    "You Can Count on Me".

Silly title, great movie. Mark Ruffalo is a great actor, but anything I see him in I can only picture him as the character from this movie.

Maybe the most unique film I've ever seen, although I can't bring myself to say I liked it.

Avoiding going too far back in time:

The Duellists (1978) - Ridley Scott's first commercial movie, staring Keith Carradine and Harvey Keitel, its a Napoleonic period film. The film before Alien. Absolutely beautiful locations and cinematography.

Probably a little bit to slow for the kids, but if you can watch grown-up films without 'splosions or t*** every 30 seconds, it enjoyable on many levels, and kind of forgotten because of Alien and Blade Runner and all the big budget action stuff that followed.

Once Upon a Time in the West

LOL, I can quote that movie from start to finish.

    I'll play...

....and somebody already mentioned "Children of Men"...movie riveted me...

"Glory" (pretty sure it's been seen by a lot of people, but still a great movie to me)

Loved the movie "Deep Cover" with Laurence Fishburne and Jeff Goldblum too...
