Intense winning culture? What a joke.

Their winning culture is so intense that they told Dwight to stay with the Lakers and waste his prime being Kobe's b**** until Kobe is ready to retire and pass the torch.

A winning culture so intense they paid 48 million to a guy who just came off a serious career changing injury and a guy who is not even playing right now.

They paid him 48mil for what he's done. Not for what he will do, it's tough logic, but it's how you get compensated in the NBA.

Plus, it's not like he's just some guy who came off a serious injury and isn't playing. He's Kobe, he'll be back and out there within a month.

I don't agree with paying him $48mil, but I can see why they did it.

Lakers are the definition of incredibly good luck, I'm happy to see them rot for a few years. With Jerry gone, I think they are done. This new era of Lakers basketball is cooked unless they can acquire Melo this off-season and hope to re-do it all.

Lakers got a lot of other things to be angry about. Their team is a complete mess.

well they choose to idolize a hugely overrated chucker like Kobe.

so i really have NO sympathy for them when their 'mamba' bite and drive away another superstar :)

The intense winning culture surely made the super team win the championship last year right?

The intense winning culture sure made them win lots of games this year right?

    We have a winner!

I hope the Rockets pound them into "star dust" after the OSB.

I just took a quick look, his numbers are actually pretty similar to his time with the Lakers, so he DID show up for them.

    http://espn.go.com/nba/player/stats/_/id/2384/dwight-howard

Except in LA he took all the brunt of the criticism for the failures of the Lakers. Lakers fans kept saying how he didn't stack up against the Lakers greats, that he'd never be good enough to be considered a Laker great. Whereas Houston's legacy of bigs welcomed him with open arms.

The only difference is he is now in a better environment for him.

It's telling that he would leave a glamour city like Los Angeles AND leave $30 million guaranteed on the table. I don't think he wanted to leave LA, I think the Lakers and their fans there drove him away.

If your name is not Kobe Bryant you are being hated any how. These Lakers "fans" are strange creatures. They still believe Kobe still can win the Championship this year and Dwight was never any good!

Who cares. They resent the fact that he left, and have every right to hate Dwight. It was best for Dwight as a player to leave, but would've been best for Lakers had he stayed.

Obviously they are going to hate him no matter what he does. Laugh at his failures, and downplay his success.

One of my best friends is a Laker fan, and he's in stubborn denial about the improvement that Dwight has down this season. Even when he acknowledges that Dwight is clearly playing better than last year, it always comes with the caveat that he's not back to Orlando form, and therefore not worth the money. Even within THIS season, he says that he sees no improvement from Dwight, and that guys like Phil Jackson are completely right that Dwight is overrated. Pretty annoying, but at the same time, it's human nature to knock what you don't have.
