Name 4 centers better than Asik last season. I'd rather have Asik over Noah and the likes and he did show up Noah 2 or 3 games in a row last season.

Why 4? You said he is top 3.

    Dwight Howard
    Marc Gasol
    Roy Hibbert

    There's 3.

Yes. Was that ever in dispute?

Not quite. He missed 3 games in November basically refusing to play/produce. According to Marc Stein:

The center was scratched from Saturday’s home game against Denver essentially because he’s so unhappy with his new role that he’s in no state to play... Sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com that Asik was challenged by coaches and teammates this week for not being “engaged” in the wake of the lineup change, which took effect when Asik was moved to the bench for Wednesday’s game in Philadelphia. And he hasn’t played since the challenge, logging zero minutes Thursday night in New York while in uniform and not even dressing against the Nuggets.

    http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/11/17/report-rockets-certain-to-trade-omer-asik/

Of course, he came back for a few games before his injury. Pretty convenient injury, eh? I mean, refusing to play can get you disciplinary action, but an injury? Nothing to be done about it.

Not that any of us has ever seen it, but if Feigen says he saw it I am willing to believe that at some point there was swelling.

Well, he still wanted to be traded, no? And see above for "playing before the injury". He was half-a$$ing it, at best.

Again, what choice do they have? Again, is Morey supposed to hold a press conference and call him out for it? What other alternative did they have?

Morey is not going to trade him below his value. He's a starting-caliber center who can guard the rim in a league with a stark shortage of such people - he WILL have strong value to some team at some point. Morey doesn't do fire sales.

Of course. Is it easier to trade him if he's still "injured", or if he's "recovered" now? There's no mystery here, bmd.

Again, what are they supposed to do? They can't very well run to the media and accuse him of lying, especially if the organization is somewhat covering for him. But frankly, it seems like some of them - coach most recently in the tweet mentioned earlier in this thread - can barely hide their disdain. Why hold contempt or be impatient with a guy who's genuinely injured?

If this injury was real - the entire time - then this is possibly the strangest sports injury I've ever seen, and I've never seen an organization conduct updates and reporting on an injury like this. Again, when an important player like this has a mysterious injury you can bet your a$$ that it isn't going to stay mysterious for long - they will have a multitude of specialists assess it until they figure out what's going on. The man is a multimillion dollar investment and his absence is clearly hurting the team. They are not just going to settle for an MRI or two and throw up their hands and say "OK, whatever, guess it heals when it heals". It doesn't work like that.

Again, believe what you want. It's entirely possible that the injury was real, and I am wrong. But there are just too many quirks and too many coincidences for me to buy it. I find it less probable that it was all completely legit than that it wasn't.

    Howard, Gasol, Hibbert, Cousins, Chandler

We only play the Bulls twice each year.

Hibbert was on the naysayer's list right up until the PlayOffs last season. I think if Miami had Asik in their lineup it would more than counter Hibbert.

Well, I've already addressed that in an earlier post, but...

It seems to me he was trying to force a trade but didn't go about it in a very smart way. And if the many reports reports about his pouting are to be believed he wasn't in the right frame of mind to be productive anyway.

These guys are walking mounds of ego, and it often clouds their judgment.

And if he plays after the deadline? I'd suggest it's not at all implausible that his agent is telling him that if he wants to have any chance to go somewhere else he had better get his a$$ back on the court and show his value to prospective teams.

Sigh. Conspiracy theories. Given every piece of actual fact indicates that Asik was hurt, why can't you accept that Asik actually was hurt? Many of you all need tin foil caps. I will mail a roll of aluminum foil to anyone who needs one.

Lol Asik is a better player than Lin,any GM would pick Asik over Lin unless you are the Sacramento kings.

Because he's seven foot and plays center... But I wouldn't call him a better center. Im a pure basketball fan and know that the investment at the 4/5 pays off more in the long run. But Lin is the better player overall, don't mistake that.

    1. He played 7 games since he was a back-up and after he was benched for a few games. I said he played "several games". 7 would qualify as several.

    2. Why do you think Morey has to call a press conference to say Asik is lying? All Morey or the coaches have to do when asked about Asik's injury is say "The doctors cleared Asik to play". If people ask why he isn't playing, all he has to do is say "talk to Omer". Or he can tell them himself why he isn't playing.

    3. You say Morey isn't going to trade him below his value. While I agree in most cases, he isn't very valuable sitting on the bench in a suit, is he? They would just be wasting time and money on him.

    4. He has been to several doctors.

I disagree, even though he sucks on offense he makes up for it with his elite defense,Lin on the other hand is good offensively but that is it,he is not great at something unlike Asik

We saw it last season,Asik made a huge impact and we pretty much sucked when he was on the bench,it was even easier to replace Harden than Omer, same cannot be said aboud Lin,we could replace him with either Brooks or Beverley and the production was still the same.

Hey believe whatever you like, but for me, Asik was dogging it, was benched, the team told him to stay home, and now just before the deadline they need to show he is healthy.

    Injury my bunions !

I disagree, I think Lin's play making abilities along with improved perimeter defense make far more special in that regard than Asik as a player in overall aspects. Have you been watching games? Lin executed very well and has had games far beyond what Asik can offer... But as a basketball person, I know enough that the 4/5 positions offer a team a better chance at competing for the championship.

Not sure if this has been said yet, but I think the only reason why Asik is playing is because he and his agent need to prove to other teams that may be interested in trading for him that the injury wasn't anything they should be worried about (considering he probably faked it) .
