I get why people might say the warriors are overrated, but please don't, in the same breathe, include the rockets as a contender, like it is a foregone conclusion. The rockets haven't done squat in the playoffs. The warriors, on the other hand, have a small amount of history in the playoffs last year. Rocket fan has to realize playoffs are what matters. Not signing dwight, trading for harden. So. Do something in the playoffs first and then we'll talk. Beat the grizzlies in a playoff series and see what kinda respect that gets you.
Thompson isn't very defensively huh? Also, they have emphasized defense for the last year... and they went and added an offensively r****ded wing (Iggy) that can lock down 2's and 3's. You cannot have it both ways. Although Lee and Curry are just garbage defensively; Thompson and Bogut and Iggy and Green are very good.
Well, they have won 3 total series in their entire history. That is a storied franchise if I've ever seen on.
The Rockets aren't a contender but they have a hell of a lot more of a chance than the fraud Warriors and their clown coach.
Last I checked, they made it to the conference final last year and can still make the playoffs this season
James Harden was dominate for the Thunder in the play-offs (especially against the Spurs) on the way to the NBA Championship series two years ago. Dwight Howard led the Magic to the NBA Championship Series a few years ago. Rockets have more play-off success within the team by far then the GSWs.
Prediction: They will kick our ass next time they play us on the 20th. Beating them twice without their main off-season acquisition, Iguadola, who was the reason everyone praised them isn't saying much or anything for that matter. They didn't even have a backup PG in one game we played them and the other one was close. We had Harden and Dwight in both games and they were without their 2nd best player and best defender. So yea, let's see how funny it is when Iggy shuts Harden down and Dwight doesn't take abuse Bogut for some reason.
Am I saying they are not overrated or that he media was all over them just to ignore Dwight joining the Rockets? No. Am I saying they are contenders? NO. But neither are we. They are more likely to advance in the playoffs than the Rockets (since it looks like we are stuck with the Clippers).
First of all, a very good argument could be made that David Lee is their 2nd best player, not Iguodala. Iguodala is important, and he plays good D, but an argument could be made. We didn't have Omer Asik both games either, a key piece of our team that would have significantly helped our defense. He's arguably our 3rd or 4th best player, and we didn't have him for both Warriors games. Let's not forget that. Second of all, I never said the Warriors weren't good. They're quite good. But people on here were talking them up as a potential championship winning team, which they are MOST CERTAINLY not. That's all I was referring to when people said they were "afraid".
Yeah it will be tougher with Iggy. The game that was close was on a 2nd night of back to back on the road while the Warriors were rested though if you want to throw out excuses. We were also 3-1 against them last season, 2 of those blowouts..they didn't have Iggy (but had Jack and Landry) in those and we didn't have Dwight.
I agree that the Rockets have not done squat, and neither has Memphis (championships or bust and they don't even have a conference championship). Didn't they just win their first playoff series a few years ago in like ever. The Rockets ARE the best team out of the Warriors and Grizz. Too bad match ups are everything in the playoffs. Last year GS won in the first round and it was the second time they made the playoffs in like 19 years. The Rockets did the same thing in 09 and they even took the defending champs (the Lakers) to 7 games. The Warriors beat a Spurs team with their youth in two playoff games (and they were very close including OT). IIRC the Rockets had a blowout game against the defending champs. So while I agree with you, you always try to make the Rockets seem worse than they actually are. I know fans around here think Rockets gonna win it all, but they're homers and most of us know we are extremely lucky if we make it to the WCF.
Vs. the Rockets Iggy is definitely THE most important player for them. Why? Because up next on the depth chart is Thompson and he always lets Harden go off on him and shut him down. Harden doesn't struggle against 1 dimensional players on defense.
Regarding Asik, when he plays and if he's here after the trade deadline (or if we get someone of value for him) I will consider your argument valid. Until then, Asik is not part of the team and doesn't want to be here since we signed Dwight. We all know the reason everyone hyped them (the media mostly) was because they just came off a stellar post-season (Jack was a huge part of that) against the WC champs. The other reason was because the more they talk about GS and Iggy, the less they have to talk about Houston and Dwight. Aslo, one could argue the Warriors are indeed the better team than the Rockets since they match up well with Iggy and Bogut guarding Harden and Dwight and Lee and Curry taking care of the offense against Lin and Jones. While they haven't won more games, they definitely are a match up problem for the Rockets (Barnes and Parsons cancel out). They Have defense, as well as offense, where they need it vs the Rockets. Last season doesn't mean anything. Iggy is the reason I think they are better than us because they are sound on defense at the 2. IT IS SOMETHING I FULLY UNDERSTAND. There are not many elite SG defenders and we struggle against the teams that have good ones (Memphis and Indiana ring a bell?)
