seems odd that Cleveland would make big moves with an interim GM at the helm. I guess they plan on making him their permanent GM or Gilbert is really running the show.

The Cavs cannot trade Deng for Gasol. The numbers just BARELY don't work.

Deng can be traded for up to $19,275,000 in return. Gasol's (base) salary is $19,285,850.

Gasol also has a $664,150 trade kicker that he would be owed by the team that trades for him, and his cap figure for that acquiring team would actually go up to $19,950,000. Gasol (I believe) would have the right, at his sole discretion, to waive however much of that trade kicker that would need to be waived in order to make a trade work under the salary cap.

However, this is a moot point, since even if Gasol waives his entire trade kicker, his (base) salary is still $10,850 too much for the Cavs to make a deal for him using Deng. (And as has been mentioned before, Deng's salary CANNOT be combined with any other salaries for matching purposes.)

Dan Gilbert is a r****d, it starts with him. This is the same f.o that had long enough to surround lebron with a decent cast.

    No it is not.

Danny Ferry was the GM and was fired after LeBron left.

Grant was doing a great job rebuilding (multiple years tanking, multiple top picks, nice talent, lots of cap) but was forced by Gilbert into a half-assed win now attempt.

Hate to see Grant go tbh. For Cleveland to be successful, they need continuity. Firing Grant while he was still accumulating talent during his rebuild was not a great move long-term (unless they replace him with some star GM which is not gonna happen).
