Do any clutchfans have any experience with taking supplements that boost your intelligence also known as smart drugs?

I've tried a few over the counter ones like piracetam and aniracetam with decent results. They are pretty good combined with caffeine and there are actually some studies which show piracetam benefits your brain as you age.

There is a new one out called CILTEP that I may try. It's more of a stack created by some guy on the longecity forums where they really get deep into this stuff. I will try it soon and report back. I need to read more about it before I try. More on CILTEP here:
    http://www.purenootropics.net/ciltep-research-and-experiences/

I also want to try modifinil. It's for narcolepsy but many use it for it's brain boosting benefits, but it's prescription so need to see the doc for this one.

I took Piracetam in school and had good results. I posted a while back about this. Can't remember who started the thread though. Nowadays I just take Bacopa most days.

As you said there is much more discussion about nootropics on Longecity forums.

Modafanil basically just keeps you awake. Not really much increased focus, but you can get by with like 2-3 hours of sleep if you really need to be awake for some reason or to get work done. Modafanil in America goes by the brand name Provigil and is very expensive. You can buy it overseas for pennies on the dollar.

Let me know your experiences with CILTEP. I'm not familiar with this.

It's not really about boosting intelligence. It's more about increasing focus and energy. Sort of like Adderall but without the need for a script and less side effects.

Provigil sucks and was pretty worthless when I tried it for a month... nothing is as good as Adderall.

Why do you need brain boosting?

For me, all of my "brain" problems seem to directly relate to my very poor reading skills.

Caffine and cocaine will make you sharper boosting your intelligence for a short time. I've heard Ginko and all that other stuff is a scam.

I've heard that Phenibut can be pretty powerful, but has to be used sparingly.

    interesting topic sactown.

I've looked into natural mood enhancers (B6, 5HTP, saffron)

And my favorite things are dream & sleep enhancing supplements. (melatonin, B6, 5HTP..) I now have the most vivid dreams and remember most of them

Right now just taking melatonin and 5HTP. Apparently B6 can block 5HTP.

I've been so focused on sleeping brain functionality, I haven't yet looked into daytime. Subscribing to this thread

I laughed when I read Clutchfans and intelligence in the same sentence! I tried
some of that Life Extension products way back in the 80s....remember Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw. Did not feel any results. I'm a lot older now and what
works best for me is the proper diet, exercise, hydration, deep REM sleep and meditation. If I do those things religiously, my brain will function at an optimum level as well as my testosterones. If I get lazy and fail to do any of the above...I will not be as sharp as I would like.

I had good results with chitibum. Assihol also works well, as does dirticok.

Modafanil prescriptions are rather expensive. The non-generically available Nuvigil is $594 for 30 150mg pills retail. Provigil is now available in generic so it can be much, much cheaper.

Also, I am "more focused" on Nuvigal. It is more than just being awake. The first time I ever took it, I was up for 36 hours straight. Slept for four hours and then was up for another 24 hours. So the awake factor is there, but I do feel more focused, and when I'm speaking in meetings and with clients - words just spew out of my mouth and I sound like an eloquent b*stard. It is the strangest feeling.

I strongly disagree that Adderall is better than Provigil. Adderall is an amphetamine, so it has a multitude of side effects like all amphetamines - most noticablely looking like you're "rolling," excessive sweating, raised heart rate and big crashes. Adderall is basically a prescription cocaine. Adderall has a "dependency liability" of "high" while Modafinil is "very low."

I was out with a friend last week who took one of his girlfriend's Adderall, and within 20 seconds of sitting down at the table I asked him, "dude, are you rolling?" I thought he was on ecstasy - the effects were that strong. Sorry, that's just not how I want to come off in my daily life. I've seen it time and time again when out socially.

Adderall also lasts a much shorter duration than Modafinil in my usage. I've felt the effects of one 150mg Nuvigil (also comes in 250mg) for more than 36 hours. Many people on Modafanil stay up for days at a time, and some even work two 40 hour a week jobs - without any noticeable effects. There simply isn't a crash when it wears off. Modafinil is a mature drug, that has been FDA approved since 1998. If major side effects were going to pop up, they'd have popped up by now.

I us Nuvigil, which is the "refined" Provigil which apparently cut down on some of the migraine side effects. I've never had a headache using Nuvigil. Most people think they are simply pushing Nuvigil due to Provigil going generic. I have good insurance so I didn't care. I've also never tried Provigil so can't speak to it. I got Nuvigil because of my work and travel schedule, I basically have "Shift Work Sleep Syndrome" and have trouble staying awake during the day regardless of how much I sleep (I travel 90% of the time).

Long story short, Nuvigil has been amazing for me - and truly unlike anything I've ever taken. It really is like the Limitless pill, as you're just "clear," and alert. My presentations are better, I fly through my research and daily work and most importantly I never "crash." It is called the "CEO Pill" for a reason, and I wish I would have found it a few years ago, hell ten years ago - because when I'm on it I just get **** done.
