Here's another Melo to Houston trade rumor: http://bucketsoverbroadway.com/2014/02/06/nba-trade-rumors-knicks-shop-carmelo-anthony-houston/ Basically says: "In my proposed scenario, the Knicks would be sending Melo, Iman Shumpert and Beno Udrih to Houston in exchange for Asik, Lin, Chandler Parsons, Terrence Jones and a 2015 first round pick."
I can blog about how I'm going to run away with an SI swimsuit model and live with no worries in the world on a tropical island but it won't happen. Nor will this ^ trade.
Yeah I don't think the Rockets would give up Jones at all! I could see them giving up another first or getting another team to give up a first though! Highly doubtful we get Melo! Would be pretty cool and immediately thrust us into favorites in the West and maybe even to win the title though!
We're giving up too much. After months and months of Asik trade rumors we can deduce one thing for certain: DM highly values Asik, for whatever reason, and will hang up the phone if he doesn't like what he's being offered. Duh, I know, but the point I'm making is it seems like there's a huge disparity between how DM values Asik and how the rest of the league values him. I'm sure whatever metrics and formulas he's using to arrive at this conclusion also rate him as a more valuable contributor than Gortat or Ariza alone; let alone when you attach to it essentially two first round picks. It's just not a DM style move.
Deng has to be traded by himself but it doesn't have to be for one incoming player. Somebody in the national media got that started, Steve Kyler or somebody like that. Deng can be traded for multiple players incoming as long as Cleveland has roster spots. So in the above trade it could be arranged from the Cavs side as Miles for DMo, Deng for Asik, Lin, and Brewer, and Varajao for nothing. This would yield the Cavs a $9,036,364 million TPE for Varajao and a small $802,280 TPE from the difference between Miles' and DMo's salaries.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ld2czvb Im going to push this again because its the exact kind of trade/player we dont necessarily see coming. Its morey-esque and would help in big amounts. Houston out: Asik/Dmo/Brewer Houston In: Ariza/Seraphin/2nd Outlook: The deal is basically Asik for Ariza. Brewer for Seraphin is just depth swap since both are similiar expirings. It makes it to where its a wing/center for a wing/center. I understand Asik has diminished his value, but Ariza doesnt carry much more value but more the same amount. He is an expiring and not much of a big name with a bigger contract. None the less Wash probably adds for incentive so we agree to ship Dmo for a return of a second. Although, IMO the 2nd isn't a deal breaker for me and probably not Morey either, knowing him im sure he is likely to ask for it tho. Ariza is the 3nD we need and would be huge. He would be able to take garcias place and give parsons and harden much needed depth and rest. Ariza is currently shooting .390 from 3pt. He doesnt get to the line all that much but he is a good rebounder and is a good-great wing defender. Washington Out: Ariza/Seraphin Washington In: Asik/Dmo/Brewer Outlook: Ariza is an expiring and they are likely to let him go since they got younger wing players like Otto Porter, Bradley Beal, singleton, Rice jr. They also have webster recently signed to a long contract. He is a prime deadline trade candidate considerring they need to get something before they lose him for nothing. They would like to retain Gortat but he is a FA and nothing is certain and he may get overpayed. Asik is the defensive Center they need and they were reportedly interested in acquiring Asik before they got Gortat. They gain a prospect in Dmo for a 2nd (or maybe not depending on negotiations) and insurance for gortat with Asik. Seraphin and Brewer is just fodder. TL;DR: Asik for ariza. with fodder from both teams. houston gets 3nD player, washington gets something from ariza instead of nothing by expiring. also get insurance for gortat. Thoughts?
It would seem from Gortat's perspective that Asik would be a better fit (and he could move on in free agency)... Gortat on his role with the Wizards:
Ive thought all along that gortat was going to move on in FA. He just doesnt fit in washington for the role they desire. Idk how washington feels about their future with gortat and their chances, but they knew the risks trading for him as an expiring. They aslo have to know about what they could lose in ariza walking. They arent good enough to contend, and not good enough to tank. BUT they have to stay competetive in order to keep Wall from walking or asking for a trade. Gain an asset/role player in Dmo and a defensive minded C in Asik that would thrive in washington(IMO) could help push them into homecourt over either toronto/atlanta for the playoffs.
I would substitute D-Mo for Covington, and give the Wizards a 2nd rounder if they insist, instead of asking them for a 2nd. Don't see it happening because of all the problems created by the Asik situation honestly, even if D-Mo was added.
thats fine to me. in all honesty i would send dmo and a 2nd, or possibly covington and 2 2nds if it got the deal done. just dont know if morey will budge that much. i know we have all lost hope of any decent deal because of the situation. But i doubt morey has, he may have reduced his desires of a return. To accept a trade of Ariza for asik is far removed of using asik as a core piece in a trade for a third star. It tells of how his value diminished but still a good return for Morey, and likely a coup for the opposite team if Asik returns to form.
I do agree it would certainly be a coup for the opposite team, if Asik returned to form. D-Mo has got good upside as a scorer with his height, despite his ups and downs. He is working hard. I think he should be retained.
Deng will only be traded to a team that is ready and willing to pay him top dollar this summer (four years, $40 mil, at least), and Houston is not that team. He has a ton of mileage on him and is a bad investment at that price. I expect him to stay put, and for Cleveland to re-sign him. Cleveland is one of the five worst organizations in the league. Their owner just fired the GM 14 days before the trade deadline. Who does that? An idiot, and Dan Gilbert is an idiot, and a d-bag. They're in too much of a mess to make significant moves prior to the trade deadline. Maybe a Dion Waiters or Tristan Thompson dump but I doubt it. 0% chance Kyrie Irving gets traded in the next two weeks. Realistically, the team takes what it can get for C.J. Miles, Earl Clark, and/or Alonzo Gee. Nothing mind-blowing. C.J. Miles is a solid rotation guy, but Daryl Morey is surely setting his sights higher.
Trade Garcia + 2nd round for Jimmer Fredette Jimmer is a sniper for sure, hitting 51% of 3s this year. He is under utilized at the Kings as they want to develop their high pick Mclemore. He will be unrestricted FA next year. He can be had for cheap.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of players well liked by advanced stats and who may be available (I.e., potential trade targets): Kyle Lowry Jordan Hill Kenneth Faried Anderson Varejao Kris Humphries Trevor Ariza Bismack Biyombo Jeremy Evans Tony Allen Tyler Hansbrough Try Lawson Martell Webster Ed Davis Amir Johnson Andre Miller Quincy Acy Timofey Mozgov Steve Blake Iman Shumpert J.J. Hickson Mike Dunleavy Luol Deng Jordan Hamilton C.J. Miles Patrick Patterson Paul Pierce Elton Brand Kosta Koufos Arron Afflalo Tristan Thompson Brandon Bass Dante Cunningham Larry Sanders Lavoy Allen Russell Westbrook Anthony Morrow Randy Foye DeMar DeRozan Kyle Singler Greg Monroe Jameer Nelson Jon Leuer Marvin Williams Spencer Hawes Talk amongst yourselves!
Still say we come away with a 3 and D guy and PF/C Hawes and Turner Varajeao and Waiters Davis and Afflalo Bass and Rondo Lots of possibilites.
A Rondo-Bass package is a possibility, but my guess is that Rondo's trade value is too low right now, and Danny Since does not like to sell low. Advanced stats dislike both Evan Turner and Dion Waiters. Also, Waiteds is a prick, and Turner is a malcontent. Advanced stats also dislike Glen Davis. Bad teams are bad because they have bad players, like Glen Davis (and Evan Turner, and Dion Waiters). Orlando's asking price on Arron Afflalo is prohibitive. Same deal with Cleveland and Anderson Varejao. Cleveland's owner is meddling, and unreasonable, and paranoid about getting ripped off; thus, Houston and Cleveland are unlikely trade partners. Hawes is a logical target, and I suspect Philly's Sam Hinkie would like to get his paws on Donatas Motiejunas. I think Brandon Bass gets moved, too, and if Houston can't get Hawes, they may settle for Bass.
